Possible to use SSI functions in Articles?

I was just wondering...

Is it possible to use the SMF SSI functions in TP articles?

I've been trying to figure out how to do this.

Basically, I want to make a hidden article that uses several of the SSI functions that I can then copy and paste into a newsletter to remind people to visit the site.  I've tried this by creating a PHP article, but I'm having absolutely no luck.

If it's not possible, I suppose that I can just create a hidden page somewhere else on my server for this.

Any help is appreciated.

I was trying to just use <?php ssi_recentTopics(); ?> and similar, but I have no idea how to format it. 

I tried with and without the <?php require("/path/to/forum/SSI.php"); ?> line.

I will keep trying to figure stuff out, but any direction would be nice.
