Hi,

I don't have a spam problem yet but am sure I will...

What are good security measures too install and implement other than the built in ones?

(I better make a donation today for all the help I've received.)

Well, the built in captcha feature of SMF is pretty good IMO. But there are a couple of mods that are expanding on this too (haven't tried them, but I hear they're good). You should also make sure you have limits put on PMs and stuff, so that if a spammer does join they won't be able to spam PMs to everyone. Disable guest posting of course.

We had some problems with Bots. They registered (but not comfirmed the activation mail)...
I don't want any captcha things so I searched a good spam protection...
Now I have two things installed and no bots visit my site... :)

1. Well...thats a german project. It's an anti spam script with many IPs. (http://www.bot-trap.de/)
2. a .htaccess file :) (Meep)

I believe SMF will eventually implement CAPTCHA for guest posting.

I think the next version of SMF will also have a "moderation center" type of thing and there will be more ability to actively moderate posts.
