I am really new to this website stuff, but I've managed to get smf and tp installed.  Dunno how but I did.  Anyways I think I did something wrong but I dunno.  When I go to my site http://www.petgrowth.com it leads to an index of.  How do I get my site to show up there.

Also do I need to remove the manual_tp_install_0971.php after I installed it.

You installed to a subdirectory (/forum) which is why the root of your website simply shows a file/dir list.

Unless you have a specific reason to install to <yourdomain.com>/forum (like you have a static site at the root) then you should just install SMF to your document root.

Since you just did a fresh install, and in looking at your site I see no other CMS programs or otherwise, I would suggest removing SMF/TP and reinstalling to the root of your website.  You could move the files, but you would need to update the database and such.  Since you have a brand new install, I would say it's not worth it given your stated technical knowlege with respect to websites.  Best bet is to simply reinstall to the root.
