I need help, desperately...

Hey everyone...I need help...
You see I have another admin on my site and he thought there was a problem with the index.php and like a moron he replaced it with the index.php~ and deleted the original.
Now I can't get to my forum's shop,arcade, gallery,etc.
But now I'm stuck without a way to edit the files on the server...I tried using net2ftp but the php editor is the dumbest thing alive, all the code is on one line...
Is there any way I can edit the index.php from the admin panel, etc?
I know I can save it and then edit it but is there a way I can edit it online so I can do it faster is what I meant to say...

There is nothing in place that I'm aware of that will let you edit the index.php file via either SMF or TP.

Do you not have SSH access or FTP access to your site now?  If you have SSH access, download WinSCP and use it, if you only have FTP access then download FileZilla and use it.

As far as editing a file directly on the server (by faster I assume you are trying not to download, edit, upload), the only way is either via Telnet or SSH protocols and using an editor that exists on the server (like vi or another shell based editor for *nix servers).

Hmmm...
I see...there should be something like how you edit the themes on SMF, perhaps allowing you only to enter that area if you have the server password...
Just an idea, but now I have to edit the file directly using a php editor because there's no way to do it manually just by editing. = \

Technically, that's not editing directly on the server.  That downloads the file to your browser as part of the page.  When you are done editing it (locally) then you would have to click some sort of submit button and have the "now edited" file uploaded back in place overwriting the existing one.

In that respect, the same result is achieved with WinSCP or FileZilla by selecting the file on the server side and selecting EDIT.  It automatically transfers the file to a temporary location locally, and launches its internal editor or external one you specify.  So if you meant "more convenient" when you said faster, then this would provide the same result.

Did this other admin have access to your FTP account? and if so do you have a backup of your index.php? could you not replace it with that file?

oh yeah, filezilla is a marvelous app! you can edit image files and pdf files like that as well. choose edit/settings/ then scroll down to file viewing/editing to set file associations with apps.
