But even then..how is a permission to download or not gonna solve your problems with this? You still need to monitor when someone has uploaded 4 times and set them to a group with permission to download.

No matter how you look at your setup, you need something that TP can't do automatically. In this case: count uploads, change permission for download based on that, and all this for one specific category.

yes, you're true... i do exactly in that way...

infact actually i use the attachments in the posts, and i count manually, and then i put the user in a group already admitted to download!!!

it was easy when i had the "Download Center" mod...
now it doesn't works with smf1.1RC3...


besides this, i always surprised why noone has never been interested in doing some beautiful mod about downloads... i was thinking a mod in which the admin ca set personal settings for every user, in which admin can set the possibility to download only if attachment was uploaded after a certain date (for ex.: only after 3rd march 2005)... and so on...

yes, i understand...

but believe me... in the way it's now, it's not easy to understand how it works... really...

the sense of the permission of "manage download" is still for me not so clear...

however, i think that would be better if instead "manage download" permission, you insert a "download" permission... it seems to me that in thus way it could have more sense...

and if you still want to let someone manage the folder and ither things, you could insert another permission...

but the actual "manage dwonload" is not so easy to understand...

we can make a poll... i bet less than 20% know its use...

however you decide... but just think on it...

i don't tell it for my use, 'cause i find myself ok with attachments, and actually i'll continue to use them... but to  have another possibility, like download manager, would be nice... expecially if you're going to improve it!

to end: if you will do it one day,please let me know, so i can give you all my thoughts about it... you know, my site is about law resumes, we have a lot of attachments, and i know all the things that can be important with thematter of attachments...

now in italy it's 1 am... i go to sleep...
