Smilies block?

Seeing the post "Xtra Smilies" made me think, how easy would it be to have smilies in a block and inserted into a post, if one is open, when clicked on?

Difficult I guess..since javascript is used to fetch the posting window "location" , and the box (text-field) is updated through the same. Might be possible though.
