â€Ã...“Come little leavesâ€Ã,, said the wind one day.
â€Ã...“Come on over to the meadow and play,â€Ã,
â€Ã...“Put on your dresses of red and gold,
â€Ã...“Summer is gone and the days grow cold.â€Ã,

The wind’s advice the leaves did heed
They fluttered and danced in the breeze
None did see the man and his rake
Until it was much, much too late.

Swept together in a pile so high
â€ËÅ"Till they nearly touch the sky
Then the hiss of a lighted match
As fire was set to the mingle thatch.

Uncomfortably warm it did grow
As the flames leaped to and fro
Deep grey smoke in a column grew
The leaves are now just a few.

But some did get away
To dance again on a windy day.

The brisk North Wind is ushering in the chilly days of Autumn; Summer, with her lingering scorching days has long ago retired, giving way to the shorter days and cooler nights of her sibling.Ã,

October decks herself out in her most colorful finery, vivid oranges decorate the oaks, and vibrant reds grace the maples, the birch is adorned in brilliant yellow, but the stubborn pines refuses to give up their uniform of evergreen, thus standing out significantly among the riot of fall colors.

Golden leaves drift leisurely by an open window occasionally picked up by a gust of wind and toss persistently into the air in graceful swirls, until the mischievous breezes tire and allows the leaves to continue their journey to the forest floor, which is rapidly being carpeted with the multihued tiles.Ã,

Overhead, the V-shape formation of Canadian geese winged their way south, racing Ole Man Winter who is progressively forthcoming with his freezing temperatures and gloomy days.Ã,  Their honks are heard for miles, informing the entire region of their journey and with a warning that they should do likewise.Ã,

A flock of crows perched high in the pines, caw in reply, stating frankly, that they would stay right here, thank you.

Gone are the croaking frogs, and chirping crickets, in their place are the hoots of owls and the barking of squirrels as they go about gathering nuts for the winter.

While the forsaken brook gurgles forlornly, as it continues its never-ending meandering toward the river, leaving the worry of winterÃ,’s preparation to the forest inhabitants.Ã,  In the distance, the cries of bobcats permeate the forest as they seek out their winterÃ,’s lodging.Ã,

Even now the air has a bit of a bite, while the afternoons can be pleasantly warm; the nights are steadily growing colder and longer.Ã,  The fall harvest has been abundant, bright orange pumpkins grow chaotically amongst the neat rows of cornstalks and haystacks.Ã,  A lone scarecrow still keeps his daily vigil over this isolated meadow, enduring the ever-declining temperatures and the whipping by the North Wind on his defenseless form, provoking his arms and legs to flap frantically.

Autumn in all her splendor is welcome by the inhabitant of this land, even though when her visit draws to a close, she will leaved the trees striped and bare, the meadow brown and lifeless, while the forest residents struggle to survive the long winter months.

Autumn, she wears the cleverest of disguises, for one would not believe that all the beauty that this one season brings belies the hidden truth, that this is the most deceptive of seasons.
