Update install issues: TP 0.95 on SMF 1.1 RC-3

I had SMF 1.1 RC-2-1 with TinyPortal 0.86 installed and running fine. Just updated to SMF 1.1 RC-3.

Then proceeded to update to TP 0.95, via SMF Package Manager. After uploading TP_095beta.zip to server "Browse Packages - Modification Packages" showed:
TinyPortal 0.95  [ Apply Mod ]  [ List Files ]  [ Delete ]

I clicked "Apply Mod" and waited for a minute or so. Then the browser showed a page with URL:
http://www.mydomain.com/forum/index.php?action=packages;sa=install;package=TP_095beta.zip

The page contained a list of "install actions" which would be implmented including Extracting Trees, Execute tp_install.php and then execute modifications. "Test successful" displayed for each of the modfications.

So good so far.

Then when I clicked "install mod". I waited a minute or so and then browser displayed a blank page. The URL in address bar shows:
http://www.mydomain.com/forum/index.php?action=packages;sa=install2;package=TP_095beta.zip

So what to do?

I returned to the Package MAnager (Browse Packages - Modification Packages) and again clicked "Install mod" for TinyPortal 0.95. This second time I didn't get as far, as I observed a blank page with URL: http://www.mydomain.com/forum/index.php?action=packages;sa=install;package=TP_095beta.zip

If it matters I'm running Firefox 1.5.0.6

Any recommends on how to proceed?

BTW before intiated this I didn't think I had any mods installed (besides Tiny Portal 0.86 which was installed before the SMF 1.1 RC-3 update, but TP 0.86 has never been listed in the Package Manager).

However I now see the item "SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update 1.0" is listed in the Package MAnager as installed. (I assume this is the "SMF 1.1 RC2-1" update which I installed awhile back). I did not think this had to be uninstalled before I installed the SMF 1.1 RC-3 update or the TP 0.95 update.

So should I have uninstalled the RC2-1 patch BEFORE installing SMF 1.1 RC3 or does it matter?

Anyhow I decided to try a differnt tack: I  FTP'd all the TP 0.95 files to the server, overwriting any of the same named files, and then run tp_install.php from browser. When I did I this I observedmany SQL server connection and related errors similar to the following...

Warning: mysql_query(): Access denied for user 'nobody'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /mypath-to-forum/tp_install.php on line 17

SMF 1.1 RC-3 appears to continuing operating fine. Just no TP :-(

Stumped on how to install/update TP 0.95. Any recommends?

how long did you wait when you were installing via the package manager (ie did it finish the process)

That's exactly what i am planning to do. any recommendations? Update SMF first, then TP?

Waited several minutes. The browser info bar displayed "Done" and there was no report on screen. Just a blank page.

With that said, how would I know if the process(es) were finished? Package Manager still shows the TP 0.95 mod as not installed.

As reported now I can't get past the initial add mod screen in package manager, as I was the able to the first time I attempted upgrade install.

Any recommends on how to proceed?

Is there a manual upgrade method available?

hi.. I had TP.86 & SMF 1.1RC2 when I updated to TP.95, doing the steps you posted and was updating successfully. It's SMF 1.1RC2 & Explorer for me, so, maybe, somewhere between your SMF1.1RC3 & Firefox might cause the problem?

I deleted the SMF 1.1 RC-2 1.0 patch in package manager. Then attempted installing TP 0.95 again via package manager. Install process proceeded once again to the page showing the actions which would be implemented. Then clicked "add mod" and the browser appeared to be reporting connection to the server. Then after a minute or so the same white blank page remained on screen with "Done" displayed in the browser info bar. I just observed somebody in another thread referred to this as the W.S.O.D (White Screen of Death) ;-)

Wondering if this is a Firefox 1.5.0.6 timeout issue?

Anyway I went back to admin home page and I observed Tiny Portal displayed in the admin menu and Tiny Portal 0.95 listed in Package Manager under Installed Packages.

So I dunno what solved it but TP v.0.95 is now running!
