Just the other day, I was in TP and one of the members of TP mentioned that one of the rooms called Chit Chat was mainly being used as a Technical support area instead of just common chit chat among other members, I had made a comment that maybe instead of using the chit chat for this kind of support that maybe Bloc and his team should add another area in their site called, â€Ã...“All Technical Support Questionsâ€Ã, This way newer people who are just starting out using SMF and TP can navigate to that area to post a questions about the programs, which in return would relive that chit chat area of technical questions.

Now don’t get me wrong, this site is set up pretty good and you can find all the answers to your questions, however for someone who is new, the terms in the site can be some what confusing to people who really don’t know where to look, and that is why I feel that adding this topic area would greatly improve the chances that less newer users would use the technical support area more instead of the chit chat area for their questions. As I look at the way it is set up right now, for someone who is green about forums, it becomes a challenge to find what you are looking for if you don’t know where to look.

Another thing that I should mention, is the fact that most people who are new and who are trying to find the answers to their questions, want fast response to their questions, so from what I have seen and observed, it is more likely that people are going to ask a question like that in a room that has more people posting in it, because they feel that they will get a quicker response, gosh I have even done that myself.

I personally would like to see an area strictly set up for technical questions, and there is a number of ways of going about it. One way is to call the new area, â€Ã...“Technical Support Answersâ€Ã, and should only be answered by the technical support group. This way this area is easy to navigate, and if one of the technical support members knows the answer to the question at hand, they can then navigate the member to another area of the forum, or give the answer to the question right there. Once a person has used the site for a while, they should know by then where to look for their questions, this is just a starting point.

I know that this sounds confusing, but I think it would work, but maybe I am wrong once again. Lol

Although your idea is quite good, Bu the way we see it, or at least i do, we have the forum sorted pretty good.

With your idea, non of the other forums will ever be used, all people would just post in the very same forum, and with that, very hard for us to help and sort out who want to know what about what.
If a forum like that would be present, i guess we have to move the posts made there to the proper forums, and then have no time answer any of the questions asked.

For the time it takes for us to start help or give reply to any question here or in any of the rooms, I think we are really fast, at least thats what many or most members here say about us :)

We are a growing team here, we have some new Team members, and Bloc is dividing the staff and forums to special "units". (look at out new Teampage)

So if the new users took their time and read the forums, they would not have all that hard to understand where they need to post or search to get the answers needed :)

I agree with Xarcell on that the ChitChat section is way "overused" by support questions, but we are about to change that and learn how to guide people better on this site now. There are some big changes on both TP and TinyPortal site :) Both more staff as i mentioned and forums are sorted out in a big FAQ that we didn't have before :)

Would it help if there were links to other sites that can give non TP support? Could be limited to ones using SMF.

Crip

Any member I think should be very specific on there questions/errors/howto's - and also provide a link to site in question with versions of TP and SMF that are being used..

In the long run this would help us to help them faster and better. ;)
I have become comfortably numb!

Just kicking the idea around ....

We have members here that also support Arcade via SMF Games, but I wouldn't rule out links into specific SMF topics for mod support or non TP theme support. Outside of that I know of a Firewall, Antivirus company that uses SMF (1.0.7 last time I looked) or even PC and internet security, where I know 1.1RC2 and TP 0.91 are in use by a Microsoft MVP.

Yep and I do see your point! All you guys have been doing a great job, and I don't mean to say anything againest it at all. I do know, that anyone that is new and comes to this site looking for answers to their questions can be sometimes a long prosess, but even if, you are right when you said that if more people would take the time to read the facts, and maybe do a search of the problem it would cut down on over posting of the same subject issues.

I am sure, that it will be all worked out in the future, I still have to remember that you guys time is spent helping others, and to take the time to redo a what I think a simple issue, can take time away from others. bad bad boy, shame on me!! lol

Well it was just a brain fart on my part. lol, Ok, lets wait and see.
