Using SMF 1.0.7


Hi and thanks for reading.

Im very excited to have found the Tinyportal,so far it seems to be what I have been searching for to help me aquire the forum I want.I have checked alot of the forums here and used the search function,but still have a couple of questions.

Right now I am using MKPortal,do I need to uninstall/delete MKPortal before I install/run Tinyportal?
Yes,Im a beginner   and I have had some problems setting things up as far as a forum goes,so Im trying to ask first to save me a headache later

Secondly,I am using the Helios Multicolor theme,I downloaded it from SimpleMachines....do I need to download the same theme from TP? Im not sure what versions work with what.I see where the Helios Multi theme is for 1.0.5/1.0.6 TP 0.75 but it doesnt mention 1.0.7....is this just not updated?

TP is a mod to the SMF forum, so if you want to install it I don't think that SMF can be bridged with MKPortal at the same time. If its a stand alone forum then of course you can. I think Akulion can answer this a bit better than I though.

Mkportal does not need to be removed but if you intend to use only TP with SMF then it may be a good idea to remove mkportal

However if you are aiming for a look by using mkportal + smf + tp then even thats possible. But will only complicate things for you since you will have big differences in skinning and also as in my case (my site uses that configuration), everything is haphazzard and unorganized.

Like if you go to downloads the site look totally changes, then you come to the forum or portal everything is different....so its annoying. Currently I am changing over slowly to TP totlly, it will take me some time since I have too many files in the downloads section already.

TP is a mod package for SMF, so it will install all the same

As for themes best to my knowledge 1.0.6 themes will work with 1.0.7
and yes you will need to download themes for TP seperately since SMF themes and TP themes have some slight differences

Although not having a personal experience I have seen quie a few sites with MKportal as main CMS and TP used with SMF.

It may be best to have such a setup first, then test TP with admin only or admin and testgroup blocks until you decide what suits you better. In the meanwhile the site will work as before.

TP themes for 1.06 will work for 1.07 perfectly. SMF themes will work but TP will not be available. You may even cheat there. If you are not using the default SMF theme as forum' s default you may leave it as is, install another TP theme and test TP without members seeing any change

Thank you gentlemen for informing me.Right now my forum is not public and noone else is registered.I want to get everything just right before its "Open to the Public" 

I am just trying to avoid a crash or system error by having them both installed at the same time.I dont have anything else set up except the forum and MKPortal(no downloads,gallery,blog,etc.) I was going to use MKPortal,mainly because it had the option to take on some appearances of the forum.If I can just use TP to help me acquire a few adjustments with the forum,Id be tickled 

....or would that be me not totally utilizing everything TP can do for my site?

Can TP be used to create a page similair to MKPortals?or just work alone with my SMF?

smart man for asking before actually getting it going and running into a headache

TP is like MKPortals
TP works with the Simple Machines Forum

while MKPortal works with many other boards
TP can make ENDLESS amount of pages
TP article section is well thought out, and easy to use
All it needs is the ability to have two editable portals like the IPB ones have

the mods are starting to pile up for the TP/SMF boards
of course there is not as many as MKPortal

the Package Manager is a pain in the ass for SMF but if you can get that to work for you, then mods will be easy to install.  If not, then you have to do the old school way of copy paste. find and replace.
