Hello all, looking for some help with the download module.

I've installed SMF 1.1RC2 + March 29 Update, Tiny Portal 0.8.6 + Update (TP through package manager, update through FTP), and FlashChat (manual). It looks like everything is humming along nicely except for the TP download module.

I am able to:

  • Manage the title, description, icon.
  • FTP files to the tp-downloads directory and add entries to the table manually.
  • Download files (tested a 40M file).
  • See updated view and download counts.
I cannot:

  • Upload files using the portal (testing 500KB-1MB). "Connection reset."
  • View sorted files (in admin they appear to be sorted by descending title, in the module they appear to be listed in the order added).
  • Update the last accessed timestamp, except manually.

Apache running as user nobody.
PHP running as user under CGI.

Can I adjust these globally with an ini_set() call from Settings.php?

max_execution_time 30
memory_limit 8M
post_max_size 8M
upload_max_filesize 2M

I control the horizontal. I control the vertical. :D Please let me know where to check and what to adjust. I'd like to fix this if possible.

these may simply be bugs with the download manager. i have to admit i haven't used it much. i would try increasing the max size of files then trying again. if that doesn't work, i'd assume the problem is with your internet connection. if it's taking too long to upload, the browser may timeout. try using FTP. not sure where exactly u'd upload though, as i don't use the dl manager much :D

Same exact problem here a month later.   I own the ISP and am sitting in the office on a gigabit backbone to the server and I can not upload any large files via the TP Download Module.   Works fantastic if you are under 500k, but any large files that I need to post in real life will not work.  It is not my internet connection.

Anyone ever get back to you with an answer?

At this time I have to use a work around that someone else posted inthe forums here.  Upload a "small" (less than 500K) trash file of the exact same name as the real file you wish to have posted in your download section.  Then use a real FTP program to upload the file into the tp-download folder, replacing the small trash file.  Then everyone can download the file at full speed without any problems.

It works, but the whole complex process to just post a file on the web site restricts others from doing that job.  This just dumps every single user into my lap to process all of the files for them.  I would rather do other things.

Right now I am looking to see if I can hook up some other php file sharing site to handle the job until I can get something that works up and running.  I already built their new site before someone mentioned that the file section does not work.  Can anyone point me in a good direction?

Many thanks.
