If anyone has a working example of this in action I'd love to see it. I'm not quite sure I get what you're talking about, so I'd like to see exactly how it works.

Okay - here you go.

Three categories, look at the third one, titled Hot Links. I did it especially to illustrate what this function can do and how it looks.

I customized some of the links in honor of someone here. The first one who guesses the correct TP member wins their very own copy of SMF (RC2) and Tiny Portal (0.8.6).

couldn't be ichbin, could it? ...

WE HAVE A WINNER!

To collect your free copy of SMF........   ;D

lol! That is too funny. That's a good feature. Not sure I would use it, but nice to have none the less. Thanks for the demo Twins.

Actually, all you have to do is place the HTML into the Full name: field.

You can do the same for a category, itself, instead of the board.

<a href=" http://www.url.net ">Redirect Link< /a >

Great Stuff!!!!

actually its
<a href=" http://www.url.net ">Redirect Link

If you put the < /a > at the end it appears as part of the link

strike that.... although what i've said above works.. it was because of the spaces in the < /a > if you remove them then it works too

also if you don't want anyone to post in it just make it a read only forum to be on the safe side .. or you may have some hackers get in there and post a message that you can't get at like has happened to me on other sites with other forums software that didn't have access to change the permissions to the forum that you've set up as a link.. its a very nasty thing when it happens.. so be sure to set your permissions correcty

If you don't then whoever has access to post or reply to the forum could easily type in say

http://your_Site.com/index.php?action=post;board=3.0

to post a message into that area that you've turned into a link as opposed to a forum .. which you can't get to except through the recent topics list or via direct url

To see what i mean see the hidden message on my site (you can only access it through the recent msgs list)

Yeah, take out all the spaces. My bad, I just thought that most people would arlready know to do that. I had to put in the spaces to show the code here, or else it'd turned into a real link.

Yeah, make sure only the admin has access to a board redirect. That'd be the best.

Of course, if you turn the category into a redirct, instead of the board, you won't need to configure permissions.

What worries me is that SMF allows HTML in those fields. I know that no one except the admin has access to those, but it still indicates a potential problem, which might surface elsewhere..

Html in the board names is how the OM works ;)

As for potential problems.. possibly, but anyone with access to editing the boards can probably already do a whole lot more worse than a little html injection.
