Hi -

Using SMF 1.1RC2

Been doing some research before installing TP, and realize I have a couple of mods that will be lost in Babylon if I follow the suggestions on this board (i.e. reinstalling a fresh index.template.php in babylon).

I really dont want to lose these mods (Email Flash, Integrated Chat, SMF Arcade).

It's not as simple as removing the mods and then replacing them after installing TP to my fresh Babylon theme, since all of these mods had to be installed manually (the package manager only modifies the default theme, so the babylon ones had to be done through changing the code in index.template.php).

I am not a php developer or coder by any means, just learning as I go by browsing all the different support boards. So far I have been lucky that everything works.

I have looked at the TP_mod-instructions file, and to be honest am a bit intimidated by the amount of manual coding to be done.

Also, maybe it's not as hard as I think, so before I go and try to tackle all this manual coding, someone with experience can take a look at my index.template.php from Babylon?

Sorry for the long wind - and if there's another thread I didn't find that has answered these questions.

Any help appreciated.

Getting Tinyportal to Work on BABYLON theme and SMF 1.1RC2 Without Uninstalling/Losing any of Your Mods:

I decided to go ahead and figure this out, based on all the information gleaned here on this site:

*DISCLAIMER: I am not a programmer or expert by any means, so try this at your own risk! MAKE BACK UPS to index.template.php and reinstall if your forum doesn't work after this. I followed these steps and it works great on my site.

1. create a backup of your MODDED index.template.php file, found in themes>babylon
2. rename it to something you will remember.
3. Find "TP_mod-instructions" text file included in the Tinyportal folder
4. In that file, find this:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Themes/default/index.template.php
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

make the modifications to your renamed BABYLON index.template.php file as described in this section of the text file.

***DO NOT MAKE ANY MODIFICATIONS TO THE OTHER FILES THIS DOCUMENT REFERS TO - THE PACKAGE MANAGER INSTALL WILL DO ALL OF THIS FOR YOU. WE ARE JUST DOING THIS TO KEEP OUR MODS.***

3. replace this file with a fresh index.template.php from your original SMF 1.1RC2 folder (if you don't have it, download it again from SMF forums)
4. upload TinyPortal through the package manager in your forum admin panel.
5. install TP
6. after the install, go back and get rid of the babylon index.template.php you just used to get the install to work
7. rename the file you modified above back to index.template.php and upload it to your babylon folder on your server

you should now have TinyPortal, plus all your mods working like a charm.

I suppose this would work with any theme, actually (dont quote me though, I am no expert - just got this to work on my site).

Hope this helps someone!
