I have just installed a fresh SMF 2.0 RC3 board, board is working fine, no mods. I attempted to install the Tiny Portal TinyPortal10RC1 through the forum admin panel/Upload Packages. The package will not install getting Error Occurred "You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!"

I have gone through all the package files and set them at 7777 I also created a temp folder in the packages folder with 7777 permissions, but I still get the above error.

Please could someone advise? :(

Do you get the same problem with other mods?

I have not tried any other mods. I read it's best to install the tiny portal before any other mods, otherwise you may get problems.

The point is to see if you have the same problem. The reason I asked you to test it, is because it is likely not a problem with TP itself. It is most likely a problem with your web server.

Ken.

Hi jazzyman, welcome to TinyPortal.

To follow on with what IchBin mentioned, it may be useful to try a small mod just to see if it would install.

Plus, some other things to check:
1/ On some servers/hosts you must have the file permissions set at 755 instead of 777.
2/ When you set the permissions do they stick? In other words... set a permission then navigate away from that settings window and then return to see if the permission remains the same as your settings.
... if the permission will not hold, or change for you then it may be that your host must assign 'ownership' of those files to you.

EDIT: Whoops, IchBin beat me out.  :)

Tried a different theme and there were no problems installing this mod.

I found that the packages/index.php was set on 644 :-[ changed it to 777 however I now have an Error In The Packages Installation error, see pic. any ideas please?
