Related Error messages:I don't think there are any related.

I've been playing a bit with the article system in my testing forum. I think there's a lot of potential there but I've run into quite a few bugs (or maybe it's me  :P ) and I have tried searching here but I have turned up nothing (even though I know there are some topics recently on this subject, for some reason search is not finding them) and in the bugtracker. Is there a list of known bugs specifically related to articles? If not I will post my findings here.

GA and post your findings Willy.

  • Not all categories show under the parent category. I went over and over the settings, I could not see any difference between a category that is listed under the parent category and one that was not... except the one that did not show up had an article in a subcategory, the one that showed, one article. I added another article, in the parent category, now both subcategories are shown. http://www.test.planetdescent.net/index.php?cat=1
  • Also while in the second level category, the first level category did not appear in the linktree. Again adding an article to the parent category seems to have fixed this.
  • When I added a second article in the parent category, the first one disappeared. I can find it through the admin section, but it is not shown in the categories.
  • The title of this article does appear when I go through 'My Articles' but there in neither intro nor body here.
  • When creating said second article, I had clicked 'Write BBC Article', in the Tiny Portal dropdown. This link did not take me directly to the article editing page, it leads to a mostly blank page. A list of admin links on the left and a header that says 'TP Admin'. Here is the url: http://www.test.planetdescent.net/index.php?action=tpadmin;sa=submitarticlebbc (Same results with the create html article.) fixed: http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=32738.0;topicseen
  • The second article has text in both the body and intro when in the editing mode. However, when you click 'Read More', or the title of the article,  you don't get to read more, the intro disappears but the body is not there.
  • When creating a bbc article, there are no bbc buttons for the intro text area.
  • When creating an html article, irregardless of the 'Use the WYSIWYG editor' setting, you get a WYSIWYG editor for the intro text.
  • A parent category shows only the number of articles in that category, does not count articles posted in subcategories. (This is true in the files section, also.)

This is my testing forum. I created this from a copy of the db and files of my SMF 1.1.11/ TP 1.0 b3 forum, then upgraded it to SMF 2rc3 and TP 1 b5-1.

I appreciate your looking at this and all the time and effort you've put into TP.  O0 If I can be of any service just let me know!

Willy,

Thanks for posting these.  Some of these I am familiar with because others have reported them.  I'm not going to start on these tonight but tomorrow I am going to try to take the time to go through your list and test these on my test site.

Today I was messing with it some more, I deleted all the articles. Then I added an article to the top parent category, and it showed the intro, but would not show the body when clicking read more or the title. And only one subcategory showed. I added two more articles, in a new subcategory of the subcategory that was not showing, they show intro and body correctly and the subcategory shows now.

I added another article, the intro showed, but going to the body produced this error message in place of the body:

http://www.test.planetdescent.net/index.php?page=10
fixed: I just noticed the article had been set to php.

When creating an html article, the contents of body section are sometimes copied to the intro section, and this is what gets saved mo matter what changes you make to the intro section. This has happened several times, I'll play with it some more to see if I can get a reproducible set of circumstance.
