Hello, I'm running SMF 1.1.11 and was running TP .98.

I wanted to upgrade TinyPortal, but did not want to lose any other mods that have been applied. So first, I tried to uninstall TP from the Package Manager, but received an error saying there was no uninstall for the package.

So next, I used these instructions to manually edit every file and was able to successfully remove TP integration with SMF. There are no signs of it, on any theme. However, one note, I did not delete the tables from the database. I was hoping to keep the content and just add in the new files (as it says in the instructions I linked to above).

I uploaded the 1.0 beta 4 to package manager, but when I go to apply it, I get this message:
Quote"Please un-install TinyPortal 0.6-0.9.x before installing the new TinyPortal 1.0. You will NOT loose any data, ...."
below that it says
Quote"Installations actions for "TinyPortal":
The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."
I went through the list of packages, and deleted all of the older TP ones, then tried to click on "UPGRADE" for the TP 1.0 Beta 4, but still getting that message.

I would most prefer to use the package manager to install this latest version, and avoid the manual instructions any thoughts?  Hopefully, I've just missed something.

thanks  :)

Before you went ahead and manually edited the files, you should have searched here for your problem. All you would have to have done is upload a new package (or edit a file) to make sure that your version of TP could uninstall. Right now, TP is looking at your installed packages and it sees that TP is installed (which you manually uninstalled). If you have no trace of TP showing on your site, try deleting the TinyPortal line from the Packages/installed.list file. See if that allows you to use the latest beta to install.

Thank you, I did see that info after manually removing TP. Search is not working; I continually get the attached error. not sure what is wrong, but everything I was able to find I did so by just digging through posts and reading. Just didn't see that one soon enough  :(

Hmm... strange the search groups were all removed... I've added the permission back, let me know if you still have a problem. Did you try the installed.list file suggestion?

melanieh75

YES! I can search now, many thanks.   ;)

I did remove the TP info from the list file, and got past the error about it already being installed. However, the test changes failed on several files:
./index.php
./Sources/Load.php
./Themes/default/index.template.php
./Themes/babylon/index.template.php
./Themes/default/Help.template.php

I guess a manual install is in my future? Thanks again for the help, it is greatly appreciated.

Well, I guess that depends on a few things. Do you have any other modifications that you need to preserve in those files? If not, I'd just upload a fresh file from the SMF package for each of those. The install should run through after that. You could still do this with mods installed, you'd just have to add the edits for those 3 files. This would be quicker than doing a manual install for TP in my opinion.

Yes, there are other mods. But, I may try that method first; much easier than manually editing all files for sure. I can always dig through the files and find those other mods and copy them over. Should I just extract the files in question from the original SMF 1.1.11 install package?

Question for you, if I may. I have been working on a new custom theme, based on the default. It has never been live yet, wanted to add TP to it anyway. I would prefer to just add the TP mod to it, and go from there, instead of this older New Def TP theme.

Does that custom theme need to be the forum's default before I apply the mod through package manager, or can it just be the theme I have selected with my profile? I have never made my own theme, so wasn't sure how it worked.

Maybe, that theme will have less errors (at least on the files it uses).

thanks

Usually you just install mods while on the SMF default core theme. Then you just make changes to any custom themes that need it, and switch your theme to the custom theme after mod installation.

Just to update this thread; I uploaded fresh copies of the files that failed the test with the TP install. Used "text diff" tool in PSPad to compare each old file with the new one, and then added in my changes (mods and what not). Then, I was able to apply the TP mod just fine!
TinyPortal even works on a custom theme I've been working on for a while. I really like not having to use a 'TP theme' for it to work.
