ok im stumpted on this one..

i have a friend that just put the tp 1.06 on his 1,1,6 smf and he wants to have videos to download.. he uploaded a few, they all download, but yet do not play.. they are wma files.. they come out as unsuported when downloading..

i then tried to upload a package of icons.. upload went fine, then when downloading, the package is empty..

he had originally started out on the tp 1.05 when this started and was hoping that the newest tp would fix this..

anything to think on?? :coolsmiley:

perhaps the size of the file is holding him back???

Sounds like permissions.

When you / he upload files, check through FTP that the files have been uploaded and not just became an empty item.

For vodeo, are you talking about streaming through the downloadmodule ? If so, thats not possible through the module as it's not made for streaming.
For file extensions, you have to set what extensions you allow through the download module.

ok i just got a new folder of images to go up and come back down.. the files that are allowed are the same that are uploaded.. im going to have him try again.. not sure what the hang up was, but like i said, my new pack of images worked..

no its not streaming thru the downloads mgr, but that is a good thought for one day..  what he wants is a way for members to be able to download samples of his work, as he is a professional dj.. i was leaning more towards a host issue on file size.. his largest is 1384kb, but still makes no sense, as i have had that size on my site and we are on the same host..

i have checked via ftp and the size of the files is true so im not sure..

.wma (Windows Media Audio) is an audio codec, not video. A rubbish codec at that. If he is a proffessional DJ he should know this and he should know that the file could be compressed further and zipped. FLAC is lossless, MP3 would be a better bet for demo purposes as most, if not all media players support it. Or better yet, he could purchase Wimpy Player for example: http://www.wimpyplayer.com/ where he could stream audio direct from the site. The player is customizable. There are probably some free streaming audio players around, I haven't looked for a while.

ok will point him to this thread.. its up to him in the end and i just want his site to be working and him happy with it.. ;)

btw, has the site issue with access close to getting fixed?? 8i couldnt access from my bookmark again, so i used a cgi proxy and racked up a 500 and a 404 error, and this is why my ip is a bit different.. i couldnt do this on my site as i have a proxy blocker on it.. hmm.. will be back laterzz
