Using TP 0.9.8 with SMF 1.1.6 and standard SMH Default Theme on our site http://australianopinion.com.

Read the letter this morning and decided to upgrade to TP 1.0.6 beta 2 so downloaded to site.

When I attempted an intall the following message appeared:

QuotePlease un-install TinyPortal 0.6-0.9.x before installing the new TinyPortal 1.0. You will NOT loose any data, and everything will work as before. After un-installing(removing the modifications to SMF files only) you can then re-install TP v1.0 and it will pick and use the old data. Note that TP no longer need to use custom TP themes, it will use SMF themes just fine..but you WILL need to add the extra "forum" button/tab to the theme.

The 'Install and Upgrade' instructions tell me:

QuoteUpgrading from TP 1.0.5 beta1 should be painless, just upload the package and it will update itself, preserving older data. To upgrade from TP 0.9 you will have to remove TP modifications from SMF files. This can be done by either updating SMF with the same upgrade files as your version - or attempt an un-install of TP 0.9.8.

I updated SMF to 1.1.6  a while ago so can't 're-upgrade' therefore tried to uninstall TP 0.9.8 - but was told there is no uninstall package and to contact mod author! :)

The Theme is 'bog-standard' no alterations whatever to the files (except for installed mods) so there's not much I can do

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the instructions but I'm not sure where to go from here.

Some advice would be appreciated.

I suggest you hold on with the upgrade right now.
We seem to have some issues regarding the database upgrade, so until that is solved, please hold on to your old setup.

To answer your question, you need and must remove tp v098 compleatly before you upgrade, to do so you need to replace the SMF files with fresh ones ( gives you all fresh files to start again) and then install TP through the package manager.
But as i said, hold on for a little bit and wait until the db issue in beta2 is fixed.

Shall do - thanks for the fast response! :)

The beta2  package is now updated.

In your case you simply need to get yourself fresh SMF files and re-upload them(you will loose any mod unfortunelately) , install beta2 and TP will find the old data and convert them.

So... I upload and reinstall the entire forum files... then upload and reinstall the new TP... then I have to upload and reinstall all the mods to SMF *and* TP??

Will I have to reinstall the blogs etc (not that they're used much) ??

Just asking 'cos if I wreck the forum (again) my name will be mud forever! :D

If you upload a fresh set of SMF files, you'll have to reinstall any Mods you have installed.
