Hi,

I have two articles being fed from a forum (because I can not get it to work another way) but I need them to change places.  Is there a way to do this without deleting a feed and reposting it?  Thanks.

IchBin

I have no idea what you're trying to explain. Could you please follow the posting guidelines in my signature? Thanks.

Please think real hard about whether your issue is TP or SMF related. We can only support TinyPortal here with limited time and staff. If your issue is SMF related please post at SMF first. Thanks!
     Tiny Portal Articles Feature
Choose an appropriate subject line. Use the issue you are having as your topic.
    Article Order=The order in which the articles appear on the frontpage
Try to summarise the problem briefly in the subject, and elaborate in the message itself.
     I need to change the ordering of displayed articles on the frontpage
Keep all posts on-topic.
     .
Post your comment/question to the most appropriate place.
     .
Any posts deemed to be in the wrong forum will be moved.
     .
Do not cross-post the same question to multiple places.
     .
Keep all posts on-topic.
     .
Please do not ask your own question in a topic. In other words, please don't hijack the topic and make it yours. Start your own topic and reference the other topic related to your issue.
     .
If your topic is resolved, please mark it solved by changing the icon in your original post to reflect its status. (the check icon)
     Not Resolved
If a topic is marked as SOLVED, don't post in that topic. Start a new one with your question even if it's similar to the topic thats marked solved. This is for us to better know and keep track on whats working or not. A solved topic has a working solution to the topics question.

Ok, I have articles on my frontpage through TinyPortal on SMF 1-1-5.  They are fed to the frontpage from a forum that is only allowed to be posted on by me.  They are not in the order I would like them to appear.  i.e.;

Article 1
Article 2
Article 3

If I wanted to change that order, I can not.  It seems that the order is determined by the date of posting in the forum.  WITHOUT deleting the feeding thread and reposting thus changing the post date, how can I rearrange the article appearance on the frontpage?

IchBin

Thanks for following about 80% of the guidelines. It helps a bit. Ok, lets get a couple of things straight. Forum news posts on the frontpage are not articles. They are ordered just as you have stated, by date posted in last. You can change the order for forum news ( I think), but that is only in TP 1.0.5 beta. But I can't tell what version you are using, because you still have not told me.

First: I appreciate your help...I do.
Second: I realize you get a lot of dumb questions and you know code so they seem even more rediculous.
Third: OK. Minor semantic misstatement on my part.  Forum posts are not articles.  They can, however, be displayed on the frontpage like/with articles (?).

However, mein fuerer  ;), how much more do you need? [/joke]

TP 1.052
SMF 1-1-5
Default theme, modified only graphically
http://fit-hub.com (hey--spread the good word!) [/shameless plug]

This is what I had set to work on the front page (not the displayed radio button selection)

What I am asking:
Is there a way to change the ordering without deleting the posts within the forum that are feeding onto the frontpage and reposting them.  They have replies I would rather not lose.  I'll try this way;
     if[not]
        ability to change date= (?) !!

If this is a function that TinyPortal is unable to perform I can accept that and do it differently.

Forgive my cynical humor.  I'm only half coder...
================================================================================
Separately, and if you aren't too pissed by my sarcasm, I can get articles to display fine, and would actually prefer doing it this way, but;
     1.) Is there a way to archive them for later viewing
     2.) How do I keep them from displaying a transparent background
     3.) (this could be considered a cross-posting question but it has not been answered) How do I change the icons for articles.  I have uploaded and selected them, etc., but they do not work correctly

A lot of ??'s I know
If you want to simply focus on the original, thats fine.

You have to forgive my seemingly impatient want for an answer as I have clients literally lined up waiting on this site and simple things like this are holding me up.  Not your problem, I know.

BTW, I'm being sarcastic with most of the comments...I love that you guys provide the support you do for nothing.  I really do.  I just like to amuse myself. Once I stabilize my site I am linking to you guys, if you don't mind.

haha, actually I dig the sarcasm. Especially the Mein Fuhrer comment. :P Lets slow down a little here so everyone can actually keep up. If the setting to sort articles (the one you so happened to not catch in your screenshot), does not affect forum posts, then I would have to say it is not possible to order the forum news posts being pulled onto the frontpage. No other way around it, unless you know how to go into your database and manually change the date for the topic/post.

Articles are the way to go if this is what you're looking for. You can add a background color to any element in your article with a touch of HTML. I don't use the wysiwig edtiors, so I'm not sure how to tell you how to do it. You can archive them by changing the setting to not display on the frontpage if you'd like. Or, you can simple move them to a category which you can name archive, and change the display option. I'm unsure about your icon question as I don't really get into the whole article deal on any of my sites.

IchBin

Actually, just looking at the icons it appears that the icons are set for he category. Edit a category and you'll see that option. You need to add the icon to the listing icon if you want to assign it to an article. (I think). :D
