How is it done???

I'm currently running tinyportal (great peice of work btw), and tp-january theme. Using global announcements as an example, I installed it and of course it doesn't work cause i'm not using the default theme.

Following the install.xml, there are files to be changed that are not a part of the theme. So I copied them from the default directory to the tp_january. Still no go. On my other board i'm using the default template, and global announcements shows under the mod section but not under this theme.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

If the files the mod uses are missing from the template you have installed, you dont have to do anything with, the template will look for the files in the default theme, so remove the files you copied from the default and just make the changes to the files that comes with the theme.  :D

rhynes

removed the files but it's still not working :(

I uninstalled the mod once, then reinstalled... i'll check the files in default manually and post back...

you will need to manually edit the custom theme with the mods edits     to the files that the custom theme has.. if there arent files in the theme that the xml file says to edit.. do not worry, them info is passed from the default.. post back if any questions  ;)

ok, I checked all the files, all the mod additions are where they are supposed to be. Still not working.

The only difference is the index.template.php file in both the default and the custom directories now have the mod additions. remove from one or the other, still no workie.

Is there anything that needs to be done to TP itself?

I'm going to try to add a different mod, see if it works.

rhynes

hrrrmmmm... just installed the awards mod for a test, just simple changes to display.template.php and profile.template.php

still no go... neither of these files exist in the january template. I even cut and pasted them to the january template so they don't exist in the default at all... still no show.

wtf.

I'm going to start a post at the smf forums, I don't think this is a TP problem.

When I kick back to the default, the mods still aren't showing... Install new ones don't appear either.

rhynes

Ok, it's the theme... links don't appear but they work.

When global announcements is installed, it provides a link for functionality but not a clickable link in the admin section...

small problem, but workable.

You don't need to edit any of the TP files.

As you now know, Custom themes have files that are also found in the Default theme.

  • index.template.php
  • style.css

...for example, and any other custom files that the theme author has decided to include with the theme.

You need to find out, from the Mod author, which Default theme files are edited with each mod you use. Then if those files are also included in your Custom theme, those will need to be edited too.

Custom theme files over-ride Default theme files when a theme is in use.

This has little to do with TinyPortal, but more to do with the theme.

Yeah, i'm still trying to wrap my head around the concept of the smf and tinyportal combined...

The GA mod works, just no link to be found... not a big deal. Every other mod i've put in works now...

Thanks.
