Big problem with Blocks and Frontpage TP 0.98

I have a similar problem. My cunning plan was to have the into to the feature article in the centre on the front page and under it intros to the most recent 3-5 articles.  At the moment I still have the Welcome message on the front page and can't get the other messages to show.

Also, is there a way of having the recent articles listed regardless of category?
