There has to be something unique to the TP & SMF installation.

I have now invested numerous days/hours in trying to change the level of error_reporting in TP/SMF.
I am getting (like so many people) some undefined variable errors etc.
Every attempt, except one, to change the level of error reporting has been without success.
Here is a summary:

1. The php.ini file in PHP and Apache have: error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE & ~E_STRICT which is the default installation.

2. Changed in the index.php file in SMF Directory (root for my website) from error_reporting(E_ALL); to error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_STRICT); which had no impact.

3. Here is the only change that ever had an impact, changed in the index.php file in SMF from error_reporting(E_ALL) to error_reporting(0) which eliminated all error reporting. However, that is not what I want, nor is it a good idea.

4. Also tried 2039 and 1 instead of 0, that had no impact.

5. Put an .htaccess file with php_value error_reporting 2039 in the website root and also tried many additional location with no impact.

6. Obviously the error logging setting Check/ Uncheck in TP works but that again is all or nothing.

It is was my understanding that setting the php.ini files should do the job ! ?

Any help would be great, I have run out of ideas.

Note: I am running on a windows system for development with Apache 2.2.4, PHP 5.2.3 and MySQL 5.0.41

I think you are better off asking this with how to set up a server on simplemachines.org
But from what i can understand of this, you have problems with the safe mod settings on your server ?
You can read this that [Unknown] posted about safe mod servers here
Hope it helps you out.
