Seems to me that it's some issue with your host.
Every thing seem to be in order in the files and the forum.
But when i shout from the default theme, i get this error page.

Quote406 Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /index.php could not be found on this server.

Info on the error from google is that you need to contact your host and ask them to change the settings on the server.
More info here

Thankyou SO much G6. That's quite wonderful. I imagine I've maybe 'wrecked' the procedure by choosing to use a subdomain (I was advised not to! - some people are just too silly!!)

I'll let you know how I get on with this. It will be WONDERFUL if the errors can be sorted out!

Thankyou IchBin! Just about to write to the host. I got a quote from SMF about PHP behaviour, and am sending it to them: "PHP has a feature called "sessions". This feature allows scripts to keep data attached to a user, such as the last time they clicked - and is generally more secure than cookies. This is because the data is stored on the server's hard drive, instead of by the client.

However, if load balancing is being used and the sessions are stored in two places - probably /tmp on both servers - this will end up causing very strange and annoying problems with any scripts that depend on the stability of PHP's sessions. Fingers (and toes) crossed! lol
