Corrupt block manager (regarding ordering of frontblocks)

Hi!

On one of my sites I only use frontbloks on the middle section of the frontpage. I've been using the block manager, of course, to set these in a sorted order that fits the site's purposes. For now I have 19 frontblocks, most of them article categories blocks. Thus their sorting numbered order is 0-180.

Strange thing, though, appeared as I added the two most recent such blocks: They simply refused to get sorted as  I'd like to  :o. I gave them  adequate order numbers, but they jumped to a place of their own. And the up/down arrows to push them up/down in the order didn't work either - nothing happened then... This works OK for the blocks that are above... ::)

If any of the TP devs is interested in this, I might pm you login details to monitoring this. The site is a pretty fresh install, and I would very much appreciate some support here since I'm about to publish the site soon.

Thanks,

misjka

Please dont bump a question with in 24 hours from posting.
We do see and read the questions, but not all can be answerd right away and need the other team members to read and test.

Is this happening in the default theme to ?
And what browser do you have ? have you tested with diffrent browsers and themes ?

I too have seen this on my site. I would suggest removing any redundant blocks that are switched off.
After a certain amount of blocks are added, the ordering system seems to go a bit hay wire. No idea for a fix, never thought to mention it before.

And yes, I think it is an issue  ;)

misjka

Yes, I also believe this to be an issue that should be figured out.
I've been using both FireFox and IE, the Millenium theme as well the standard theme.

I've also seen this happen before, so I'm pretty sure there is something broken with the code. It seem to start at about position 170 or 180, as it now appeared as I added two article boxes that got these positions. I've now added yet another box, which got 190, but all the boxes in the lower section for the order (don't know exactly at what position it starts) behaves weird after I've added the previous two boxes.... But, as I mentioned before: The boxes further up seem to be ok...

The cruel thing is, that I don't have any redudant boxes to spare  :(... In fact, I would need maybe about 5-10 more to be honest...

This is a database design problem.

The col for this (pos) is a Tinyint(4), what mean, you can save numbers for 0 to 127. Bigger numbers are shorten allway to 127.
To fix that problem, change the 'pos' col on blocks table to interger.

Mm, that sounds reasonable, Fel! Thanks!

(I might change that for my portal, but I would like the devs to have this in mind, and in scheme, as further releases concerns. That's why I so stubbornly bumped the thread in the first place...)
