Hi,

We got hacked. They hacked just the splash page (home page) and did not seem to haver touched the board.

So I called my webhost. My webhost went and reset all permissins on my entire site, top to bottom, to "0"  That should stop the hacker, but now what am I supposed to do, go and reset them all by hand? I thought some of them were not supposed to be set to 755. How do I find out which ones? I can upload a new copy of TP, SMF and Coppermine, I guess. I need to update TP and SMF anyhow. Will I lose all of our pictures and posts?

I read some of the posts here which suggerst that when they hack just your home page, they have attacted the host server itself. Is this so?

I need a shoulder to cry on as much as tech support right now! I'll go back to searching this board but in the meantime if anyone has some ideas Id love to hear from you.

Yes, they have hacked the server through an exploit in another account possibly. Only the host can tell you. If they try to blame SMF or TP ask them for proof. Not much you can do about it if the host doesn't take care of the problem.

They did try to blame TP/SMF  of course, even though it looks like my TP/SMF pages were fine. I shudder to think of redoing the whole site.

There were a bunch of database errors last week....would that have anything to do with it? And how does one find out the IP address of the hacker? Pbviousdly once we are back up I would want to ban them.

Your host is the only people who can give you the answers as to why it was hacked and what was the IP of the hacker. Again, ask them for proof. If they cannot provide it they are not a good host.
