Whats the point of offering winamp as "software we are giving away today" when you can grab it from winamp.com?

Nah, for a GOOD site that keep tabs of free software try snapfiles.com, the freeware section. Loads of good stuff there and REAL comments and reviews too.

A problem with the daily giveaway is that it has to be downloaded and installed on that day. You only get that one bite, if you need to reinstall at a later date you cannot, unless you buy the program/game etc.

A pure angle at providing free softwae IMHO. There already many software companies that provide free versions of their commerical software - unrestrained. To tease like this only bring traffic to that site.

One might draw from that that all they offer you already have-or could have- for free. That is incorrect.The fact that they may have offered winamp really has little to do with any other software.I suspect that 99% of what they offer in not available for free. Now, is there a similar freeware available somewhere--- that is likely, and someone never fails to mention it in the reviews.

There is also a quite substantial, very thorough 15 minute review on the gothd site. I always read it.

I prefer to look on the positive side. Sure you have places like snapfiles[pretty tint compared to  http://www.all4you.dk/FreewareWorld/links.php  and they are nice-I use them often,but snapfiles also has a shareware section where I am sure you will find some of the offerings made at GOTD. But you will have to pay for them at snapfiles---that is the difference.

FWT is huge--too huge actually...

I have never really had to reinstall any software so I can't say nokonium. I would just sat that if I did, acronis true image will put that software back on my computer with no problem,and I did not get Acronis for that purpose--it is just wise to have it--or something similar imo.

I find the reviews on GOTD to be some of the best . They don't let people away with much. They can be absolutely brutal. If the software gets a 90%+ positive I tend to go with it, if I need/want it. I will also grag others with less positive reviews if I need it.


Just saw bloc's last post and I can't help but comment on that too.

What is a freeware version if not a restrained version of the shareware??why have 2 versoins if the shareware version is not better, and why think anyone would pay for it if the freeware was equal or almost equal.

The freeware versions are much more of an attempt to get you to buy the shareware version imo. Having said that, most people don't need much more than the free version---that does not mean I would not rather have the shareware version---for free.


The bottom line is that you never know what you will find and there is no one forcing you to try anything.

What exactly do you have to lose?

For one thing..I have nothing against sites that offer free versions of commerical software, more than happy if its collected so you can follow up on whats availabe.

But the NATURE of this site is bad imo, they ONLY offer it one day and you HAVE to come to the site every day to check tings out. So the primary concern is to make YOU come to their site and read about things you can also get elsewhere. Maybe its just me, but that approach always feet a bit "sneaky" to me. Especially when you conisder how valuable a freeware site/link site can be - all the more reason Snapfiles is gotten so big, they are simply collecting more and more programs - no wonder they are getting big. And thats a GOOD thing in my book, more options, more freedom.

By my quickly browsing the site , they are offering things like Winamp(free and well-known softare) and other relative unknown programs side by side, all seemingly "free today"...

How is that honest? Especially for the user who doesn't know some of it are actual free all the time..?

Maybe Winamp was one off, though I saw also AVG from grisoft offered the same way(also been free for quite some time) and can only imagine other programs as well.

Sorry, but no sigar imo.
