G6 is corrrect when she says you cannot put the TP outside of the folder the SMF is in, but you can do 1 of 2 things. You can either move the forum and everything into your main directory for your site, or you can set up a redirect of your url to the forum folder - ie. www.yoursite.com is redirected to www.yoursite.com/forum/

Both suggestions are correct...
If you want to do a redirect you just need to find out from your host what works for your server setup.

On mine it was very simple... a small .php redirect file with one line of code was dropped into the www.mysite.com folder and now it takes you to my SMF/TP 'home' page.
