You see i was recommended here from the SMF forum. I get the fact that TP is a mod of smf but what does it actually do when i install it?

basically this is what i wanted and they said that you guys can help me with this:

i would like to customize my Home page so that it wouldn't show the forum index on it.

I would like to have blocks on the left panel where i can add a shoutbox and another block where i can add links and adverts.

I would like to have a welcome note that is always there on the right panel and the forum news under the welcome note block.

and what files do i need to install TP? there were 3 in the download section and i'm confused.

Ken.

Neorics, TinyPortal can do all of the things you mentioned and much more, like easily adding extra pages to your site using the TP article system for one example.

As for the one to use, TinyPortal 0.9.8 is the one you need for a regular SMF package manager install.

Reading the TP docs section will give you lots of good info on how to do installs and correct problems, but if you run into issues that you can't resolve on your own just post back and someone will try to help.

EDIT:
Ps: Look in the Showcase boards for some good examples of what TP can do for you.
Here's a couple of mine.
