Any way to make the shoutbox float? So that users can continue to monitor the shoutbox as they scroll down the forums? Of course, I would imagine that the shoutbox would have to be the only, or at least the bottom block on the left or right side, .. but if this is possible, it would be pretty sweet.

Either that or add a scroll bar to the forum itself...

Moocat

i'd think a floating shoutbox would mean opening it in a popup, which would make it much easier than making it animate with the page (i assume). have it auto-refresh or something

USO_Joe

Yeah, that would work. If it was set to pop up and refresh every couple seconds, it would take the place of a chat room, and would be a whole lot more convenient.

As well, another solution would be to just make a scroll bar for the center forum, so that you can scroll down the forum without moving what's on the sides.

That would require frames. IMO, I would stay as far away from frames as you can. Frames are headaches for search engines if you're concerned about them.

Putting the shoutbox in a frame is not planned. Its a type of block which belong together with the other blocks...Although there is a full-page view of the shoutbox of course.

Well a floating shoutbox might work then. Something to allow someone who is scrolling down and through the forums to constantly be able to see the shoutbox. There's no way to make it, even if it was the only block on the column? I figure if you extended the block all the way down the page, there might be a way to sort of force it to drag with the page scroll?

It can be done by using css..but I am not sure it will work on all browsers.

The biggest reason to avoid any frames or popup-windows is to be easy on the server, loading in the same script twice is not very effective, especially if you run other things as well.
