Show latest articles?

If I wanted to show the latest articles on my homepage how would I? This is not my forum but main site? WOuld it be via the SSI?

There's a code snippet in the block code snippets board for this. I think if you included the SSI.php file and then used the code it might work. However, I'm not 100% sure on that.
