Ive been trying to upgrade my board now sporadically for some time...and keep running into problems.  Ive managed to overcome a few..but..still no real success.

My orginal and current board is SMF 1.0.9 w/TP 0.8.6...works well, but I wanted to do the upgrade to SMF 1.1.2 and TP 9.7.1, considering SMF was released as a stable version....thats why Ive not upgraded previously btw.

First I tried upgrading a mirror copy of the site, and lost all access to anything with only the following error showing..nothing else but my top header logo.
PHP Parse error:  syntax error, unexpected '<' in ......./forum/smf/Sources/Load.php(1040) : eval()'d code(34)
I came to find out this may have occured because I didnt uninstall TP 086...prior to the upgrade attempt.  Its probably of no consequence anyway..but just stated here for insight.

So...I decided after that to just install a fresh SMF 1.1.2 in another folder.  Upon success, I attempted to install TP 971, but ran into problems with that using the package manager...read all the related threads and finally got everything to work using IchBin's very helpful post < HERE >.

Now....what I would "LIKE" to do is transfer all the data from the existing 109 board, to the newly updated site and then replace the old with new.  However, Ive ran into problems doing this, considering the 109 DB structure is not compatible with the 112.  Ive tried upgrading another mirror copy and upgrade was successful, but when I tried to use the upgraded mirror sites DB for the fresh 112/971 board..(default theme btw)...it went crazy again, and Im not sure which error codes were related to this because I was very tired at that point, but it did not show any of the default themes image buttons, everything was really tweeked in overall display, plus I had an error about not having the SMF link in the footer copywrites...which of course I had not changed any template files to warrant that.

So I need to know what suggestions anyone has to transfer all the existing data, including TP pages/articles/settings from the old 109 board to the fresh 112 board.  Or at least thats what "think" I need to know! ;)
Im just not wanting to attempt an upgrade on the "live" site due to my initial problem doing that on the mirror copy.  I fear that if I uninstall TP prior to the upgrade, that I would lose my current settings/articles..due to the upgrade incompatability issues between the two TP versions.
Hope this makes sense and Im not just totally stupid!!  LOL!!!!

THANKS!!!! :)

I don't think you would lose any TP setting as the upgrade for smf will not effect the Tiny Portal templates themselves, and when you install Tp the settings should still be there.

To be safe make a backup of the forum and the database just in case, but I don't think you should have a problem with it.

Nothing will be lost from the DB as long as you dont delete it.

First off, SET THE FORUM TO USE DEFAULT SETTINGS!! Nothing else, Default Core theme, Default language set to English. And then place the forum in maintenance mode.
BACKUP settings.php and Settings.bak.php, they need to stay as they are.

Tranfer the files through FTP from your new site, Choose to OVERWRITE all old files, that will make all files up to date, but still leave attachments, avatars, smileys and so on alone as you dont have them in your new forum.

When you have transferd all files, download and extract the UPGRADE.php package from SMF.
From there, you take out the files, upgrade.php and the 2 sql update files.
Upload them to your forum root and point the brower to the upgrade.php
That will start the upgrade of your database.

When the progress is done, you download the TP package from this site.
Extract the package, take out the manual_tp_install_0971.php and the sql file from the package, upload it to your forum, point the browser to manual_tp_install_0971.php and it will update the TP files.

Refresh and have a look to see so everyting is working as it should.

All the old thems (exept the default) will not work after you have upgraded as you switch versions totally.
So remove the extra themes installed from the themesfolder. Just leave the default themes (Default "Core", Bablylon and Classic)

Same with mods, they will be lost to, so they need to be installed again after you upgraded as all the files got replaced with fresh ones :)

Hope this help out a little bit.

THANKS!!!!  Im sure it sounds like Im a complete newbie, lol...but really, Ive just not messed with the part of things for a while and when I got the first error, it made me paranoid, not helping was the subsequent problems!

I think that I may have got screwed up initially by not switching to default theme prior to starting the upgrade...I will start there (again..doh!), and see what happens...rather than uninstalling TP altogether, thats what I was mainly worried about.  Some things currently in my TP stuff actually "needs" to be trashed or revamped...just wasnt looking forward to starting completely from scratch! ;)

THANKS AGAIN Rebel Rose <<cool name btw!) and G6..I appreciate the insight!

Well, now I DEFINITELY "feel like" a complete newbie!!!  DOH!!!!! :uglystupid2:

Suffice to say...that I cant stress how IMPORTANT it is to be sure that you switch to DEFAULT THEME BEFORE making upgrades!!!

I did that....upgraded to SMF 1.1.2 via the webinstall...used package manager to install TP 9.7.1 (see IchBin's sticky thread in this section or my link in first post) and BOOM!!!  ALL WAS GOOD!!  Smooth Sailing!!!

THANKS AGAIN G6!!!!
(and you too Ich ;) )

G6Cad

Great    Dont it feel just freat when you managed it all by your self to  :)

KBkustoms
