If you want any help with phpbb you should probably goto a forum that uses phpbb like www.phpbb.com. Here we use Simple Machines Forum www.simplemachines.org. There's plenty of documentation that will tell you how to setup everything.

First off before you come to this site where we have the Portalsystem for SMF forums you need to actually Download and install the SMF forum first.

All the help and files you find over at Simplemachines.org

When you have worked that out, and learnd the basics about how to run and maintain your SMF forum on your host (you need a host to place the files on when you install SMF) you can come back here if you want to have and use the Portal MODIFICATION for SMF.

So first, Browse to simplemachines forums and read the how tos and download the SMF package from there and read the install notes to get your forum up first.

Then you are welcome back here if you want  to have the portal modification added to your SMF install.

Sorry G6. I have written for a long time and donââ,¬â,,¢t want to delete everything. So this isnÃ,´t a try to correct your post, but my Posts: x+1

Greetings!

ââ,¬Å¾I will love to build a forumââ,¬Å"
Good Idea, in general. You need some software.
Well, there is a lot of forum ââ,¬â€œ software at the web, each with pros and cons.
Now itââ,¬â,,¢s time to recommend the Simple Machines Forum
You will find everything you need, software, mods, themes, support at the following link
http://www.simplemachines.org/

Well.
If you have minor or no experience with this kind of software and especially with install an manage a forum, I recommend to try it offline at first.
So, you need a server.
I prefer Xampp. Easy to install and nearly similar to the programs, which a host will use.
Everything you need is here
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/index.html

This is the point to explain a bit.
Iââ,¬â,,¢m the first.
This place is a forum for experience exchange about a really great mod, which is written for the Simple Machines Forum (SMF). The software you will find here, is not a forum software and will also not work ââ,¬Å"standaloneââ,¬Â. This software, Tiny Portal (TP), need a running SMF forum.
So if you ââ,¬Å"will love to build a forumââ,¬Å", this is the wrong place.
Itââ,¬â,,¢s also the wrong place, if you want to learn something about SMF

TP is beta software. This means, that the ââ,¬Å"evolutionââ,¬Â isnââ,¬â,,¢t finished yet.
In fact, TP perform very well, so there is no reason to avoid the installation. But if you havenââ,¬â,,¢t some experiences with managing forum ââ,¬â€œ software, it will better to learn it without TP. If you are running into trouble, you must have some knowledge ââ,¬â€œ at least to figure out and describe the error.

Now, itââ,¬â,,¢s your turn.
You know, that phpbb is another forum ââ,¬â€œ software, with no relation to SMF?
You know, that TP wonââ,¬â,,¢t work with phpbb?

I have the suspicion, when your write phpbb, you mean php and bb.
PHP is a kind of language, humans write it, to tell stupid machines, what to do.
Something like this
   <?php
       echo 'Hello World!';
   ?>
BB is another language and even so written by humans to tell stupid machines, how to make things niche for other humans.
For example [.b] big [./b] is the reason, why some things are big .

Accurate suspicion?

Conclusion:
ââ,¬Å"so any help will be okayââ,¬Å"
I canââ,¬â,,¢t explain the world, but I would like to have this knowledge.
Not even I can explain the SMF ââ,¬â€œ part in this world. For this, some people have written
http://docs.simplemachines.org/
Read this first.
Then this
http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?board=85.0

If an answer to a specific question isnââ,¬â,,¢t given, I try my very best to help you.

Sorry, I think we have misunderstood a bit of what you said. The scripting language is called PHP, the code used on SMF forums to add formatting etc. is known as BB. PHPBB is another developers forum software.

You, I now believe, meant the scripting language PHP.

It's great that you do some research first, and you seem to have read some to.

But you cant start at this site.
You need to first get the FORUM up as it is the base for everything regardless the scripting it's built on.

So start at SMF forums (simplemachines.org) and let them help you understand the basics you need to know and even if they can help you set it up on a server if you have a host allready.

When you have your forum up and running you can come back for help with TinyPortal.
TinyPortal is just a MOD for SMF. Not a forum itself.

So browse to simplemachines.org and ask them to help you with setting your forum up.

Most portal software is made with php.

To start a website like this one, you will need to first install SMF. Then install Tinyportal through your package manager within SMF.

Before you can even have any kind of website, you need webspace or a host.

This website is proudly hosted on Crocweb Cloud Website Hosting.
