I would think if you use kens shout box, you could make the block not open to guests

Yes guests can use it if its visible to them, its temporally set for guest views so that you can see it... I'll un-check the guest views soon.

Ps: Just discovered that its no longer supported by the author, it works OK for me but the no support part must always be considered.

On another note, if your patient enough to wait for TP1.0, there will be 2 shoutbox modules released with it, a simple version like whats on here, and a more advanced version. Not currently ready for preview but highly editable and designed for both narrow side blocks and expanded wide center blocks.
