Loading time of my site increases a lot when I enable a rss feed. Sometimes it takes 20-30 seconds for a page to load, instead of just +/- 1 sec. Frequently loading a page also times out ...

Not sure if one would call this an 'error', but it certainly stops me from using rss-feeds...

Is there a way to load the rest of the page anyway, or load the rss-feeds latest of all? Since rss-feeds are external, I prefer to limit dependency of them working properly.

I have become comfortably numb!

This have nothing to do with eather SMF or TP, rater your RSS feed that have a slow load from the server you get the feed from.
There is nothing we or smf can do for you in this matter  :-\

Hmm... what can I do to stop 'a slow load from an external server' from delaying the display of the rest of the TP/SMF-site? Just to name one thing I can think of, what about loading the feed in an iframe or having a div / ajax solution? Or delaying loading the rss feeds until the full page is loaded? (I realize all these things might sound stupid in the ears of a 'professional' :-)

As i said before, we cant do anything with the rss load time from other servers  :-\

There's not much you can do about someone elses problem. It may not be even that their RSS feed is slow, but rather than they may have errors in their code which SMF and TP cannot handle. But as G6 suggested, it's not something we or SMF can do anything about.

If I understand this well... it makes loading the feed independent from loading the rest of the page:

(am I right in thinking that this could help me out?)

Might be that this is too much of a change to the current rss-script in TP. If it works, it could be a block snippet though.

GOT IT WORKING  :)  :)

Website now is loaded independent from (slow/not working) RSS feeds

Using this script:
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex18/rssdisplaybox/index.htm

Required actions to get this working:
- upload script to a folder on your site
- add some extra code in the header of your site
- add a small piece of javascript in a block to display a RSS feed

All instructions can be found on the page mentioned above. Got it working in 15 min.
