Hello,

I looked around and didn't find the answer.
Is there any way to build the front page of tiny portal with anchors to somewhere in the middle of the page? I mean, I have a site with posts from a board chown in the front page.
If I want to send the URL of some post to someone's email I have no choice but to send the forum thread URL. I would like to send the first page URL anchored to the desired post instead.

Example:
instead of sending the URL http://www.mysite.com/forum/index.php?topic=15327.0 I would like to be able to send the URL http://www.mysite.com/forum/index.php#15327.0 and then, the visitor would go to the first page of my site, but directly to the article I want.

Thanks in advance!

I think your question is more related to SMF than TP. You may want to ask over there to get more help with changing URL's of topics.

xung

No, I'm ok with URL's topics.

I installed recently TP, and some of the SMF topics are shown in TP's FrontPage.

I would like to send these topics to some friends but, I would like people to see that there are more threads (related to that topic or not) and not just that one I've just sent, without having to click anywhere else. That way, they could see (once again, without clicking anywhere else) other contents of the site.

I think the easier way to to that is anchoring the page.  :)

In the example I sent before I used the same anchor name as the thread name, and perhaps that confused you. What I meant was something like

<a name=somearticle1></a> content of article 1

<a name=somearticle2></a> content of article 2

<a name=somethread15327.0></a> first 300 chars of thread 15327.0

<a name=somearticle3></a> content of article 3

<a name=somethread15339.0></a> first 300 chars of thread 15339.0

This way, if I send the URL http://mysite.com/forum/index.php#somearticle2 or http://mysite.com/forum/index.php#somethread15339.0 visitors will stay on TP's Front Page, but will go directly to the article 2 ou the thread 15339.0 (but they will still be able  see all other articles and thread, scrolling up or down)

Then, if they want to see the whole article, or enter the forum, they'll just have to click the thread's or article URL.

My original question was: Is there any way to build TP's FrontPage with such anchors? :(
Or is there any other simpler way to do it? I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks for your attention.

I see what you're saying now, and no its not possible with the current TP. But we'll let Bloc decide if he'd like to add such an option. :)

xung

Ok, thanks!

I'll wait for a next version, then. Is there a prediction for a date to the next release?

And does my suggestion make any sense anyway? ;D

IchBin

Yea, I see what you're saying. Not sure if it makes sense to anyone else though. :)  As for the next version Bloc does this on his free time, and I certainly don't expect him to put a time line on his own free time.

xung

Ok, thanks!

I guess this could be a usefull feature (SMF uses it while displaying forum's threads, for example if I wanted to directly lead someone to your answer before the last one - http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=13902.msg115800#msg115800 ).

So I guess I'll wait to see if Bloc decides to implement this feature...

Once again, thanks a million for TinyPortal.
