Sorting like a blog

First - this is primarily a SMF issue - so I don't expect Bloc to solve this.

I've been banging my head trying to configure SMF 1.1 RC1 for blogging and it is mostly there - but it has one glaring problem - chronological sorting.

In order to configure SMF for blogging w/ 1.1RC1 - it appears trivial:

  • Add a new category called "bloggers"
  • Add a new "board" for each blogger
  • make the board "reply only"
  • make the blogger the moderator

However, the sort function in SMF is all based on comments and that wrecks a blog.

Example, if a blogger enters three posts: "mon", "tue", "wed" - they sould be listed either forwards or backwards.  However, with SMF's sort - "mon" can easily be in the middle.  >:(

The reason this has a negative impact on TinyPortal is that many Portals/CMS's are very powerful blogging platforms - this portal needs SMF to at least support rudimentary blogging and SMF does not given the sorting deficiencies.

Again, I think the sorting issue is a SMF issue - but it has a negative impact on this effort.

If someone on here knows how to hack a category of boards to stop SMF from changing the order of new topics (without turning off comments) that could have a positive influence on this effort.
