when I had them as static pages they worked fine.  But when I tried to put them into an article that became a problem.

It has to be something in the words themselves that is a problem. I tried it in one of my html articles and didn't have a problem at all. It does seem to be some sort of setting in your server or your version of mysql. Maybe whoever set it up doesn't like geocities. :)

There might be a way around it, which would be a bit of a pain, but workable, I think. Go to http://tinyurl.com and enter the URLs in the form there. You'll get a different URL to use which will still send people to the right page.
