I don't know if this is where to post is, or if someone else has figured this out too, but here I go.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get members able to submit articles. The submitting articles thing was the reason I upgraded from .98 to 1.05, and that feature not working was driving me nuts.

So, lots of trial and error later, I figured a way to get it to work!

To enable members to submit articles it goes like this-
--------------------
In Admin --> Members --> Permissions --> (group you want to allow)
under Tiny Portal-
Allow "Manage articles"
Allow "View TP News" (this was the key, if this isn't enabled, they won't be able to submit the article)

under TinyPortal Articles-
Allow "Submit Article" (I have both BBC and HTML enabled)
Allow "Edit Own Article" (if you want, I have it enabled)

----------
In Admin --> TinyPortal --> Articles & Categories --> Submissions
Check off the groups allowed to submit articles (make sure they also have same permissions as on permissions page)
----------

After all this, your members should be able to submit articles.
I used a test account, and you can easily click on the 'manage articles' in the userinfo box
It brings the member to the admin, and they can only see what they have permission to see.
My test account had regular forum access, and the only extra was articles,
I could see -
Main
Administration Center (just the news)
Support and Credits
TinyPortal
News
Articles and Categories
---------------------

Now, this also gives the member access to the whole Manage articles section.
They can see the categories section (but not see actual categories), but it doesn't let them create any.
They can see the article settings, but they can't change them.
They can see the submission settings, but again, they can't change them.

The only article I could see in the test account, was the welcome article from TP, which was uncategorized, and could also be edited.

While testing the submit an article (BBC) I was able to give it a title, enter text (and bbc code) into the body,
and I also had the option to display on the front page, and choose a category, which there were none that I could see (there are plenty categories, but the test account couldn't see any of them)

----------

Logging back into the admin, going to Admin --> TinyPortal --> Articles & Categories
the test article I submitted was showing on the top of the articles, for you (admin) to move to the appropriate category and activate.

---------

I hope this can help others!!

I did discover that it doesn't work to go through the member's profile. That still doesn't show a way to create a new article.

But if they click on Admin, then they can.  ???

No, wait, that's no good either. If I give permission to manage articles, then they're able to click on Admin and also add categories and change user groups. Can't have that...

So you've got yours enabled to manage articles? If you disable that, can you set them to create new articles?

When they click on admin, they dont get into the whole admin, they can only go to articles  (I've attached an image of what it looks like- Image29)  all the options are going to show in articles, but they can't edit them.

So,
for whatever usergroup, you need to (in permissions) have the group you want to be able to submit articles,
to have TP News AND Manage Articles set to ok.

The test account I set up wasn't allowed to add or change any categories, settings, or even approve articles, the test article I made had to wait till an admin went to the article section, and put it in a category (as articles aren't active until they're in a category)

Now, to make sure of that, you need to make sure that in permissions, you have "Submissions are always approved" set to deny.

For them to submit articles, I didn't try through profile, but through the User Box, (see attached Image 27) or by clicking admin. I also wrote up a 'how to' for the members in my forum, so they'd know how to do it :)

I hope that helps some :)
