The status of TinyPortal 1.0

TinyPortal is developed by Bloc here. He develops this software in his own "FREE" time. Please take that into consideration. He doesn't ask for money for any of the work he does here with the exception of paid themes. Which are a hell of a deal in my opinion. As such, we ask that you refrain from asking "When is the next release of TinyPortal going to be out?". We know it's an awesome and exciting software, but we will not give any deadlines to Blocs or anyone elses freetime. So if you are referred to the FAQ when you ask this question, you now know why. Our answer is simply, "It will be released when its ready to be released."

Thank you,

TinyPortal Team.

Where can I find SMF & TP themes?

Downloadsection: Blocs themes for SMF and/or TP for 1.1.x
Note: Please remember for TP 0.9.x a separate theme is required for TP to work. There is a separate download for SMF and TP on the same download page. If there is not, it means the theme has built in support for mods. You go into the theme settings and enable support for TP by checking the appropriate box.

Theme Shop for paid theme selection from Bloc, StormLRD and Crip.
SMF 1.1* with TP V.09*, Coppermine and Joomla.

StormLRD Board holds free themes for
SMF 1.1* with TP V.09*

Crip Board holds free SMF themes thats been converted to work with
SMF 1.1* and TP V.09*.

Other TP Themes Board holds some
SMF 1.1.* for TP V.09* thats been converted by other members.

A full collection of ALL SMF 1.1* for TP V.09* themes avaliable exept the paied themes can be both downloaded and viewd at
HumanPorkrinds demo site
-- Site is temporarily down

A full collection of ALL SMF 1.1* for TP V.09* themes avaliable exept the paied themes can be downloaded and viewd at Familjegodis.se

Older archived themes for SMF anf TP versions from SMF 1.1rc2, 1.1rc3 SMF 1.1 and TP V.086, TP V.091, TP V.095 can be found in the archive theme section on Familjegodis.se

Note:  You can pretty much use any theme for TP1.x. The only alteration you'll need to add is a Forum button, which is of course another FAQ. :)

When installing SMF via Fantastico in cPanel, the Language settings seem to default to UTF-8 characters.
This results in some text not showing in some parts of SMF and TP, including the TinyPortal Admin links.

See attached examples (You need to be registered and logged in to view attachments).

This problem is easily fixed
You need to check which language characters your forum uses:

  • Admin >  Configuration > Server Settings > Default Forum Language.

Make sure it is set to English, if it is set to English_utf8, change it by selecting English from the menu.

Installing UTF-8 Language Packs
You can alternatively install the UTF-8 language packs that can be downloaded from TinyPortal. You need to manually transfer the language files un-zipped to the Languages folder on your server:

  • /public_html/Themes/default/languages/

The Language Packs can be downloaded by following this link: Language Packs

Additional:
To use UTF-8 you need to convert your forum software to use UTF-8 if it's not already UTF-8.

  • Admin > Maintenance/Forum Maintenance > Convert HTML-entities to UTF-8 characters

Be aware, that this change is difficult to reverse and you should read the SMF documentation first.

There is a UTF-8 Read Me at SMF
SMF UTF-8 Read Me

The forum software downloaded direct from the SMF site defaults to IS0 characters and should not have this problem.

Kudos to the TP Community for information on fixing this problem.

Why are my side panels not showing on my site?

A couple of things you need to check:.
  • Did you install TP while on the default theme, with your forum set to the default theme?
  • Do you see the side panels on the default theme?
  • If the above suggestions are true and its working, then you are probably using a custom theme that is not converted to work with TP. Remember TP 0.9.x requires a separate theme converted to work with TP. Unless the option for TP to work in both SMF and TP is built into the theme. Find the appropriate download for your version of SMF/TP.

Modules, Teampage, and Gallery say "not implemented".

Modules, Teampage, and Gallery say "not implemented":
This is because of what is says, "They are not implemented into TP yet".  This means that Bloc has just put placeholders for them to be added later.

Blocks don't show for certain membergroup?

Why do the blocks not show for certain member groups?

Each block individually can be set to display for different member groups. If you add a member group, TP does not automatically add them. So you need to manually edit each block to show, or not show for each member group.

Admin > TinyPortal > Block Manager > Click to edit each block necessary

[Staff edit - Zetan]

Post count groups, Newbie / Hero members for example, also have block viewing permissions. Check these groups as well as any Custom member groups.

Reason for the error usually ends up with other mods that have changed the code string/s the installer looks for.

You can procceed with the install, but you will have to manually add the code for TP into your index.template.php file according to our modinstructions found in the doc section.
