Okay, I thought it was just one of my friends setting their security settings high or something, but... I am having people tell me stuff isn't there. Lo, it IS there, I looked and with multiple browsers. When I start asking questions and even get a screen capture, it turns out that the common thing I see is they're all using vista. >:( The people with vista seem to not been seeing stuff.
Whole blocks are missing. Is this on my end? Can I do anything for them? This is REALLY going to cut down my visitors and ad revenue. No wonder my ads are off and way down. Help. Any ideas? I did a search for vista-related problems here and didn't see anything.
Thanks, Marsh :tickedoff:
Marsh could you Please read and follow the Posting Guidelines (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=581) so we can get a better idea of what we are looking at.
The first thought that comes to mind is permissions, you may need to set each blocks permissions for the member groups that are not seeing the blocks.

In what way did I not follow them? They are a bit complicated. and I DID search first. No, I am pretty sure that I have the permissions set right, but will check them again.
It's a TP issue,
I think, as they're not seeing articles I have there. They both see the banner and left and right blocks, but not the article... Both are global mods and both have eyil, icky Vista. One is using IE7, the other Firefox...
The website is my reenactor.Net (http://www.reenactor.net) and it's in both the "Frontier Period (http://www.reenactor.net/forums/index.php?page=26)" section and the "Civil War (http://www.reenactor.net/forums/index.php?page=20)" And both seem to be able to see the stuff in the Article Manager, but not in preview or live?! It's hard to look at more with them as I don't live near either and it's on the phone or over e-mail.
Anyway, it's disturbing... if it's vista, I'm in trouble, if it's just a setting, I can fix it. Will check permissions again.

Related Error messages: none, it just doesn't work... the articles don't show.
I've never heard of an operating system (Vista) causing issues like you describe... someone else may have of course.
OK, first we need to sort out exactly what they are seeing, or not seeing because in your first post it sounds like they can't see some of your blocks but in your last post you speak of them not seeing articles.
btw... the posting guidelines call for details about your setup:

Just saw the thing about the details. It took me awhile to format and list the mods. I know, I know. A lot of mods, and not done yet, but some of these will go as I don't like them/use them. I need the functionality they provide. Anyway, sorry I missed the bit about the details.
P.S. I thought maybe some security setting in vista???

There are security settings in Vista, but it's much more likely we are talking about browser settings, for example IE7 tends to have some issues according to some users... that's why I use FF3. ;)
EDIT: It's past my bed time so I'm off for now, if no one has a chance to help you resolve this by tomorrow morning I'll check back in with you.
I use FF3 too, as does one of the global mods. I thought for SURE he was using IE. I don't know. If you go to my page here (http://www.reenactor.net/forums/index.php?page=101), what do you see? There should be a long article of links to website of Civil War Union Reenacting Units.
It's there.
So,you see my dilemma... if those two--and they're like a LOT of reenactors -- not technically proficient, I'm in trouble. I'm hoping it's something on MY end. :-0 Go to bed, you're up past your bed time. I'll be back on tomorrow. I drive a truck and MY back's screaming...
Why do blocks not show for some member groups? (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=21346.0#post_mpanel)<--- Click that link
Okay, I'll bite. What block is it? They're articles that aren't showing aren't in a block... I just have links in my menu to the articles and they show up. Most people seem to see them. And again, I never assigned the articles to a block... Maybe I'm missing something :-0
Well, I've NEVER seen anyone have this problem where it wasn't something they were missing. It is either article or block permissions. Its hard to follow you because at one point you're saying its articles, and the next you're saying its blocks.
Okay, to me this is a bit different. I used TP to replicate my old website because I wanted it to be a content management system... I tend to get things mixed up. What I do is basically make all my old pages into articles. It's clumsy and I hope I can get someone to make me a mod to do what I need. But, I digress...
I use the blocks to make the menus work; I have certain blocks containing menu articles that only show up w/ certain articles. BTW, I tried making it so they showed up in the category, but that didn't work.
Anyway, most people, I think, seem to see the articles, but some aren't. Here's one of their screen captures (I think she did it w/ a digicam):
And I should add what the page she captured SHOULD look like (and DOES look like on my and most people's systems):
What groups is she a member of? What permissions for those groups do you have set on the articles and blocks that she is not seeing?
not sure if you've solved it or not. i'm in vista SP1, and i can see your whole front page?

They're both global mods. I have the permissions set right, as far as I know. Other global mods see the pages... the thing
I saw that linked them together was the Vista thing.
So, nothin' so far? I have NO IDEA where to start. Only that these people COULD view the site and pages before I upgraded to 1.05 ... also, they both have vista. If two of my mods have this problem viewing articles, then how many other visitors are not seeing things?! ???
What should I do? I've looked at permissions until i am blue in the face and my back screams from sitting in this chair.
Marsh
P.S. one of them told me she did a "go back" 5 weeks back and it's still not showing...
The only way I can trouble shoot this, is if you give me her login, and an admin login so that I can view both the account settings of the user login, and the permissions of the articles/blocks etc. If you and the user are willing to give that to me, then I will take a look.
Looking at your settings you seem to have a lot of mixed stuff. For instance, you have the right panel set to "not" display while in the forum. Yet in "Your user Stuff" block, its set to show in the forum. How about you give me a list of what she is supposed to see on each page and I'll check what I see with her account, and then check the settings.

Hmmm, you've got me there. I figured I didn't want a lot of the stuff cluttering the Forum. I dunno... what do you recommend? Should I have a lot of the TP stuff on all the pages? I thought not. And you mean EACH PAGE of the whole site :-O She's missing the stuff in her section (Frontier) while my other person is missing the stuff in his (Civil War). I know they
both worked before I updated to 1.05...
I guess I should ask you how you think I should set all this stuff. I don't want guests to look at some things, instead having them register and log-in. However, on the other hand, I want visitors to be able to look around (and search engines) so don't wish to lock out too much. What are your suggestions?
Its your preference not mine lol. For now, how about you tell me what she should see on her pages. So that I can go through and check what she is/isn't seeing, and then check the settings.

Frontier menu on left, w/ stats underneath. Articles in the center and I haven't added any ads to those pages yet, otherwise there'd be an ad box w/ button ads, etc. on the right. If you look in the articles manager, you'll see all the Frontier articles. Each is pretty much it's own page. I'm sure there's a better way to lay it all out, but I'm just building this out of my old site and later might fool w/ it more. Hell, I need a special mod that I don't even have time to make dummies of to show what I need :-0 THEN it will work really well. Just don't have that yet. I digress. Sorry.
thinking of this... I use "ausgezeichnet" as a place to give out awards... don't want all who have awards to be able to edit all stuff, but some (most) of them are also Global Mods... Did I do this wrong?
Giving awards by using a member group is ok. Just make sure that member group doesn't have all the edit permissions that you don't want. I will probably take a look at this when I get home in a couple of hours. Getting busy here at work.
Nothin' so far huh? I could send you the other guy on my team's e-mail... he can't see the content on pages either. Both could before TP 1.05 was installed!? :idiot2:
bleh, sorry about that. For some reason I hadn't checked back on this post and I was thinking you were trying stuff out. I'll try to take another look soon.
--edit--
Ok, so if you want the Frontier menu and stats on the left take a look at the block permissions for stats. You only have the block set to show for ungrouped members and guests. You set the right permissions on things and it will show for them. :) And then, if you look at the Frontier category permissions, you'll also notice that you only have guests and ungrouped members set to allow to view it. I'll let you make the changes and check for yourself.

Okay, I see it. Wow! I hope thi swill work for them. I bet it's been causing
beaucoup trouble. I wondered why my amazon stats and sales were down... I bet this is it!
I'll ask them to look again.
Thanks!!!Best, M.
One more thing I am suddenly seeing, on certain articles, like the main one (and in some articles I am using as menus), it put's the category title next to it or above... WHERE is that control? That's one thing that get's me... TP is awesome, but sometimes it's SOOOO hard to find the tiny little control check box :-0 Oh well, still damn good!
Edit:
Here's a screen shot of what it's doing. I KNOW there's away to turn that off, but I just can't find it :-0
Well I'm not sure exactly what your'e talking about, but look in the article display options. There are a lot of options on what you want to display for the article. Go in and edit the article, and then click the link to look at the display options.
Crap, you posted while I was editing and adding a screen shot... Ack! Way past my bedtime...
So did you find the setting?
no. I'm getting frustrated. It might have to do with the Jack and 7 I made a while ago or that I didn't get enough sleep last night. I have been looking for that setting and figure if it was a snake, it'd have bit me already >;-0
okay, time to crash... it's late here. I know that settings something dumb. Ack! Frustrating.
It was the category icon. I went in and change the icon to none in your category settings. Thought it was the article Icon sorry about that.
AWESOME! You just made my day :-) For your outstanding and valuable help, I award you the r.Net Cross!(https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.reenactor.net%2Fforums%2Fawards%2F14686_r-net_cross1.gif&hash=308185bb585788eef4b4331d2ffe581a669e48cd)
