And keep all the information?
With TinyPortal there is no "conversion process". TinyPortal is a modification to the SMF forum. So anything to do with your SMF forum will not lost, but added to. As for any other web pages you have outside of the forum, they can be added to articles and stuff.
Someone else got my site up for me using SMF then I found the Helios Milticolor theme I want to use but don't know much about how to install, like where do I browse to from package manager to get the download?
I guess I should start at the beginning, how do I back up my data & Modifications?
You can backup your database in the Maintenance section of your Admin panel for SMF. Just copy your files from your website to your hard drive to back them up. You download TinyPortal from this website, and then you find it on your hard drive when you go into the package manager. If you have mods installed then it will most likely fail in some aspects. But you can always remove the mods, install TP and then try to reinstall your other mods.

Backed up my site to Mydocs showing up as a SQL file and a copy is in my winzip using the back up database and ckecking the following,
Save table structure
Save the table data. (the important stuff.)
Compress the file with gzip.
So now my question is...What it a mod? And How do I disable them and do I save them in a seperate folder?
Please keep in mind this is my first try at anything like this. Thanks in advance for all your help. c
Tiny portal is a mod made for SMF, download it and install the zip via your package manager..you'll be glad ya did. ;)
I'd say you need to do a bit of reading before you try and do anything. Head over to http://mods.simplemachines.org/ to see what mods are. You don't disable most mods. If you want to turn them off you probably have to uninstall them. There's a short install guide here that you'll need to read when you're ready to install.

I can't seem to download the Tp theme from winzip when I go to package manager, browse it want to download winzip and won't let me find the Tp file I want to download???
you don't need to do anything with winzip. You install the theme as a zip file in the theme manager.
I try to download from my desktop and it states "The package you tried to upoad either is not a valid package or has become corrupted".
The package I am trying to upload is "Helios Multicolor"
Thanks, c
It sounds like you're trying to install a theme and not TinyPortal, itself.
Try this:
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item99
Just upload and install that through the Package Manager and it should work.

Ichbin,
Wow, that was really easy but I been struggling for two days to try and figure the thing out. And the theme works great. Now I'll be changing themes like I change my socks. Thanks again for all your help, c
Ok, now you really got me, what is Tiny Portal?
Oh, nevermind, I was thinking you were still trying to get TP installed.
Or I am really confused ...
www.tinyportal.co.uk
Lmao.. ;D
:D
How do I install tiny portal or where do I upload it from? It works with SMF and the new theme I assume to give the theme more options and a homepage that doesn't look like a forum? Thanks, c
I'm confused. I thought you did it already?
You install tiny portal through the package manager of SMF.
I installed a theme, Helios Multicolor, is that different than tiny portal? I thought Tiny portal was something that gave me options for the theme?
TinyPortal is the mod for SMF forums that makes the side blocks to the forum show like they do here.
The themes are eather made for smf WITH tp installed, or just plain SMF with out side blocks
If you want to have blocks that wraps your forum into a portal like we have here, you need to install the TinyPortal mod to your existing SMF forum install.
You have to install TinyPortal, first.
Then, you install the TP themes.
where do I install tiny portal? In admim maintence somewhere?
Download this:
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item99
And install through the Package Manager:

I didn't realize he had not installed TP.
First I turned off the theme "Helios Multicolor", installed Tiny Portal on the theme settings, it turned the screen background white, went back in and changed the theme to HM but it doesn't look like TP installed.

Neither did I.
I'm still confused.
Did you upload the package through the Package Manager?

BTW, are you using 1.1 RC2?
Got it all to work but then my boards disappeared when I switched the theme to HM. Don't know how to get them back. Uninstalled TP but it left itself in place. All my boards are showing up in Admin. Is there a way I can get it to look like the default with the HM theme? Looks like TP won't go away.
This is the message I get when I click admin on the home page.
This block should be visible for admins only - no membergroups are set to be allowed to view it. As default new blocks will have all membergroups and guests checked.
You want TP, you need TP.
I think what you've done is downloaded the theme that is for SMF, not TP (?).
Make sure TP is installed and working properly. Switch to "SMF Default Theme - Core" and get TP to work properly.
Then try this theme, which is for TP (1.1 RC2):
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item82
TP works ok but I wanted the default look with the block on one side.
Like the way this page looks when click forum. I wanted the Helios Multicolor with blocks, I had HM without blocks. How can I remove TP and put blocks in to HM? or is that a different forum?
No, you don't need to remove TP, you need to keep TP.
Often times when someone can't see the blocks it's because they installed the theme that was designed for SMF only and not TP. This site has some of the same themes for both SMF and TP and if you install the SMF theme in TP, it won't show / work properly.
So, assuming that's what you did, you should probably uninstall the Helios Multi that you installed and install this one, instead:
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item82
Do that, and you should see the blocks.
That worked, thank you. Now could you please help me to get my boards to show on my home page?
ADMIN >> TinyPortal >> Settings >> FRONTPAGE >> What to show on frontpage:
Play around with those until you find what you want.
Glad to help. :)
it's the forum thats not showing up unless you go to a recent post then click the fourn link. It was on my home page before I did all this.
Don't see a front page in Admin/Tiny Portal/Settings
Can you manually check your files through FTP?
If so, go to where you installed SMF / TP and check to make sure everything got uploaded and make sure none of the sizes are "0".
If they didn't, unzip the TP package that you downloaded from here to your computer and manually upload the files / folders to your server.
Don't know what FTP is. The front page looks like this...
Admin
News
Then there is a retangular box with curved edges on top and my website name. It's highlighted but when I click it nothing happens. After I click a recent post the boards show up in that box.
Can I get a link?
sanrafaelpua.com
comanch, you need to go into your admin panel. On the left you'll see a link for TinyPortal "Settings". Then look for a link that says Frontpage, or Frontpage Settings. On that page you'll find the option of what you can display on the frontpage, the forum being an option.
That has been tried, don't see option in my settings but I do see blocks under settings and a front page editor there but it doesn't look like I can do anything there. Also prvious post on this link have adressed that issue. I Uninstalled TP but it's still working on my site. My webmaster just told me he thinks he can go into my PHP or something like that and fix it.
If you want blocks on your site, you have to have TP installed. Unless you have someone to create a theme with blocks in it, but TP does that for you without having to hire someone to build a custom theme.
Now, I don't think TP is uninstalled. If it was, it still wouldn't be showing up. Go to your package manager, click "browse packages". Does it say "uninstall tiny portal" or "install tinyportal"?
Also, I agree with anunlike. I Don't think your using a TP enabled theme HM. I will find the link for you. One sec...
Uninstall your current HM theme, go to admin > themes & layout > themes & settings > find the HM theme and click the red X. Then in your SMF root directory(FTP) go to Themes > HM theme and delete the folder.
K, after uninstalling your HM theme. This download and install this one:
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item82
BTW, don't bother installing the that theme if you don't have TP installed.
I suggest you start again.
Reset everyone to the default SMF theme, and disable (temporarily) the changing of themes.
Upload the SMF files again, overwriting everything but Settings.php
Install TP through the package manager
Install the Helios Multi TP version theme.
Allow everyone to change themes again, and reset everyone to use HM_TP.
Not quite sure I understand. How do I disable the changing of themes.

What is FTP and root directory?
FTP is a program you use to transfer files from one server or a local machine to another.
It looks just like your local file system with folders and files. Just like moving folders and files between harddrives :)
The root directory is the first folder (main folder) also called public_html or in your local machine it is called drive C:/root
comanchero18 you can have a look at
http://www.webmonkey.com/webmonkey/frontdoor/beginners.html
I think you will find http://www.webmonkey.com/ useful now and later.
It would be useful to have a tour there, it will teach you the essentials of website building.
Thanks agridoc.
