Title: Chat Bot Block
Post by: akulion on July 19, 2006, 09:25:50 PM
Chatter Bot

This is an amazing add-on to any site! I cannot express how useful it is in bringing in traffic! I only advertized on 1 site that my site had the 1st Islamic Robot ever on the net..and it got me 140 members in 1 month as opposed to an average 40 to 50 members a month!

Ofcourse not everyone joied up but I had over 15000 unique hits that month alone! With an average number of 15 to 16 guests on at one time.

Its a novelty but very nice and a lot of fun!

How good your bot is - in the end depends on how well you train it.
By default the bot is very interesting as well, but you may not like some of its responses eventually and want to train it a little which is very simple to do.

Demo: Here (http://path-to-peace.net) look on the right and type something to Mr Bear

- Demo is not on TP but it will display easily on TP as well without problems at all.

Mr Bear Bot (my creation) waiting to be talked to
(https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpath-to-peace.net%2Fmisc%2Fbot1.jpg&hash=1eea8ec49b4fe4ed71c03eeaa924dc6287a0d0c8)

Asking Mr. Bear a question as simple as typing and pressing enter
(https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpath-to-peace.net%2Fmisc%2Fbot2.jpg&hash=139509b2527243371f9871cadc17b3c036fee340)

Mr. Bear replies without the need for a page refresh using Iframes, so the reply comes instantly
(https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpath-to-peace.net%2Fmisc%2Fbot3.jpg&hash=51d86a32a0d02f0308b7eef565a258f2bc211d75)

- Step 1: Get your own bot FREE!

To do so visit Pandorabots (http://pandorabots.com/botmaster/en/home)

And sign up for a new account.

Once you sign up you will have a few options.....

Step 2- Train your bot (optional) With this option you can assign your bot custom responses, for eaxmple is someone asks it where is your home? you could assign it a reply such as 'My house is this site (ur site name or addy)

Step 3 - Customize your HTML code
This is essential to protect your bot from being used by other people.
To do this, once you are logged on at pandorabot click on your bot name
Then click on Custom HTML button
Then click on either create a custom HTML file link or upload one from your browser.

This is the most important step because it determines how your bot looks and feels like!

My file code is as follows if anyone wants to use it:

<html>
<head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<title>Mr. Bear</title>
</head><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000" style="font-family: verdana, helvetica; font-size: 10px" topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" rightmargin="0" bottommargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">

<div align="center">  <table width="100%" HEIGHT="100%" WIDTH="100%" border="1" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#000000" cellpadding="0"><center><tr><td bgcolor="#FFFFFF" HEIGHT="100%" WIDTH="100%"><font face="Verdana" size="1"><center>
<IMG SRC="http://yoursite.com/bot.gif" ALT="Mr. Bear"></center><BR><center><b>
<I>Mr. Bear</I>:</b> !OUTPUT!
<form method="POST">Ask: <br><input type="TEXT" name="input" size="18"></form>
</form></font><font face="Times New Roman" size="1">Ã,©</font><font face="Verdana" size="1"><a target="_blank" href="http://path-to-peace.net">Path To Peace</a></font></td></tr></table></center></div></body>
</html>

In the code above please replace:
- the Bot.gif image addy to your own image (above it is: http://yoursite.com/bot.gif  )
- the copyright address
- the name of the bot to your own bot name

- Step 4: Creating a face for your bot
Select a cute little animal or whatever you prefer a hunky dude or a curvacious lady or some game character is up to u....just be sure to upload the image to your server and specify its addy in the HTML code given above.

- Last step: Creating the Block

This is fairly simple really.
Simply copy and paste the code below to a SCRIPT box in TP block creation area.

<iframe id="datamain" src="http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=cb0567193e365b08" width=150 height=240 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 hspace=0 vspace=0 frameborder=0 scrolling=no></iframe>
<layer visibility=hide>
</layer>

Replace in the above code the address for your own bot (this is available from your pandorabot admin panel)...or else you will end up with my bot on your page with my copyright notice on it.

You are welcome to use my bot if you like but just to let you know my bot is custom trained to give Islamic responses to many questions regarding religion etc...so you may want to train your own bot in the end :)

Thats it - activate your block and enjoy your new bot!

For Lazy People

A small note for people who are just too lazy to create their own bot

you can use my 'Default Bot' loacted on my pandorabots account by placing the following code in your block

<iframe id="datamain" src="http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=f8f0cb212e3663e0" width=150 height=240 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 hspace=0 vspace=0 frameborder=0 scrolling=no></iframe>
<layer visibility=hide>
</layer>

the above code will produce a bot with the default settings - the limitations are that you cannot train it since it is based on my account.

Also if my site goes down so will the image for the bot

The bot looks as follows:

(https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpath-to-peace.net%2Fmisc%2Falice.gif&hash=c643d8f6ef257be36a65ffbb29224b8a1c0c76c6)

You can talk to Alice by  Clicking here (http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=f8f0cb212e3663e0)

PS: no dirty talk...i can read conversation logs :D lol

Enjoy :)

I would love to do this but I am much too ignorant and know nothing about creating HTML code.  Oh well it would have been fun.

Marian dont worry

simply use the instructions for "Lazy People" above...all you will have to do is place that 1 single code AS IS into a block and it will work :D as a default bot :)

Ichbin...is this ur convo log?

tootal luuu,

I'll give your code a try and maybe I can learned what I need to know and be able to trained my own.  I want a ghost or a medium who answers question about the spirit world.  You can have load of fun doing that.

Would you please look at this code and see if I did this correctly before I attempt to use it. I uploaded a picture or a gif file to my server, it is a ghost.  And that is the location that I copied when I click on the file in my image folder.  If this part is ok, I think I can learned the rest.

Thanks for your help. :)

I must be doing something wrong.  I added the code to the customize box, I publish it, I then copied the file code to the scripbox, but I get Mr. Bear and not Snoopy.  The Snoopy is not showing in the bot pages either.  Could that be because it is animated?  Should I use a still picture?

Also, I see that you can rent for $10 a month and animated talking bot.  I would love to do that but would it be able to show up on the forum using TP.

Marian did you change the address for the bot in your block code?

When you click on your bot name in pandorabot admin panel, it shows you the URL to access your bot from, put that in the code below in your block, instead of the one already present....

<iframe id="datamain" src="http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=f8f0cb212e3663e0" width=150 height=240 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 hspace=0 vspace=0 frameborder=0 scrolling=no></iframe>
<layer visibility=hide>
</layer>

u see the address in the above code is:

http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=f8f0cb212e3663e0

that points to mr bear, your bot snoopy will have an address of its own which you can find in your pandaro bot admin panel....

check it out and lemme know :D

Check out my bot.
It is Shadow, the spirit.
I couldn't get Snoopy to work so I created another one.  I used the link that had skin=Shadow in it and then I was able to see it in my block on my site.  I train it and it is answering with my input.  One thing though, it still has the
'path to peace' in the text box which leads to your site.  Is there a way to removed that link?  Or will it destroy my bot?

You might be using part of the original code which has 'Path to Peace' reference in the botton of his code.

html>
<head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">

I also centered mine within the block and changed the background color to match my .gif instead of the white background mentioned in the code above, which is #FFFFFF

So, all I need to do is removed that right.  Do I need to put something else there?  I would need to publish again right, right?
So, I will take the html file that I already loaded and just adjust that, saved it.  I think I can handle that.
I am learning a little something about this, thanks to everyone's help.

Yes you could just remove as far as I know or put your own site's URL.  Then yes, you'll need to publish again.

One thing, I am having a bit of trouble with that in my site..

www.gadgetkorea.com (see left hand side, says virtual BoA)

Basically, you need to open it with Internet Explorer, problem only occurs in internet explorer. Also, a big gap is created between the left hand side blocks and the central area..

iframe stretches way down the whole thing, even though it looks fine in firefox..(??)

My custom HTML code:

Quote<html>
<head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<title>BoA</title>
</head><body bgcolor="#FAFCFF" text="#336699" style="font-family: verdana, helvetica; font-size: 10px" topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" rightmargin="0" bottommargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">

And please view it with IE...Firefox is totally fine.

PS: Sorry, you must be registered to view it..>< (should i make it public temporarily?)

What do you mean by div tags?? There are hundreds of them!

Also, the space between the texts is just impossible (when viewed with IE):

(https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg224.imageshack.us%2Fimg224%2F8950%2Ffdakg4.jpg&hash=7435c4edda4c9d10c4ef1a6578873caaabc9aa01)

I want to to make it look like this..(when viewed with Firefox):

(https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg224.imageshack.us%2Fimg224%2F4688%2Fgddac4.jpg&hash=2a4dcaba524f5d7c93cf7259bd4cf1dcb98d0fd3)

no i meant the div in the IFRAM content:

<div align="center"><iframe id="datamain" src="http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=9d20a7b3ee3661d7" width=170 height=210 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 hspace=0 vspace=0 frameborder=0 scrolling=no></iframe><layer visibility=hide></layer></div>

try changing it to:

<iframe id="datamain" src="http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=9d20a7b3ee3661d7" width=170 height=210 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 hspace=0 vspace=0 frameborder=0 scrolling=no></iframe><layer visibility=hide></layer>

You dont need a center div there because if you look in the html file code..its already included on thepage itself...

give it a try..

i registered on your page but stil awaiting activation email

ok finally got in

if the above dosent work...the only suggestion i can think of is to do this:

In the HTML file code set

border="1" to 0

and then in the Iframe tag set frameborder=0 to 1

try getting rid of the border altogether...that way there wont be a black box around the bot or the iframe

set all borders in both the html and the table to 0

I see it corrected YJ  ;)

If you want to keep the frame you can try to reduce input size from 18 to 17 or smaller.

<form method="POST">Ask: <br><input type="TEXT" name="input" size="18"></form>

Title: Re: Chat Bot Block
Post by: akulion on July 30, 2006, 10:34:55 AM
its just simple talking to the bot and training his replies by correcting him

it does take long if you want to really really fine tune it, but mostly its trained to give responses to most replies

I have really been training Shadow, the Spirit.  Being a ghost she has a very different outlook to some questions than others.  She can be right smart month and insulting,  but that how ghost are in the middle of the day.  ;)

No, it is still not fixed. The copyright border is way down the border and there is a big space between "BoA:" and the Text input field.

That is not an iframe issue. I have deactivated border temporarily as it looks better. But the problem is not fixed and removing the border made little difference in this. ><

Quite frankly, it is the vertical stretching, not horizontal...

(You just don't see the copyright bit at the bottom + text input disappears in long answers)

PS: You MUST use Internet Explorer - I see you are using Firefox, you will see no problem with Firefox.
Title: Re: Chat Bot Block
Post by: akulion on July 30, 2006, 04:58:50 PM
seems internet explorer adds those big spaces for some reason

even though there is no line space tags....

lets hope someone figures it out...but still it looks good despite the spaces

for longer answer I think the iframe scroll bars must be set to auto

dont tell me they use opera!! :2funny:

the surprising part is even if u go to the opera page they admit their browser is not as good as othr browsers ... but of course they 'hide' it with a long speech about how opera is infact better because it dosent run javascript properly (which according to them can be dangerous) :2funny:

java script can be dangerous if u are going to shifty sites and dont have programs like mcafee site advisor installed

i doubt that any respectable site would risk their business by using shifty scripts

but luckily i have site advisor and it always alerts me of suspicious stuff on a page if there is any

but only cos of a few scripts it dosent mean that u totally leave out javascript to run porperly

All of a sudden my image for my chat bot wouldn't load.  After much research, I found my problem.  I had enabled hot link protection for my site.  After I disabled it, my images came back!  Even though my site's url was in the list to allow for image linking.

Maybe I should add the url for the forum, maybe then I would still have the hot link protection but still be able to link to images on my server. What do you think?

Do you have the hotlink protection for your site on your host?  I wonder how many have enabled this feature and how do they fare while using it.  I also think it slowed my site down, because everything is back to normal.  I was having time outs and a host of other problems that went away.

I love my chat bots.  I created two, Shadow is a ghost and will answer your inquiries like this, 'Where are you?'
Shadow,"Reading over your shoulder!"

And

Pitch Witch, I am just beginning to train her.  She is a good witch and will not respond with harmful replies.  I used animated gifs, which I think work better that the still pictures some use.

Aku, what do you think about this image for your Mr Bear?  If you aren't overly fond of that one, I can get you another one.

im glad its back or we would have to use those cheap bots from that othersite which also moderate forum posts, talk to people in chat and via PM, provide helpful tips to visitors as they browse the forum, popup on your screen as a fully animated cartoon character and you can play with them, and also read your posts if you give the command after u install them in ur forum, fully integratable with smf, vb, ips and phpbb ofcourse and totally free.

Who wants all that, sounds like a headache

as for now displaying it in your forum or when browsing ther parts of the site...simply use the inbuilt feature in TP to display blocks for only certain parts of the site. You will find it at the bottom in a drop down box when editing a block

I know this topic has been inactive for some time but I came back to get the lazy man code for the chat bot.  Due to an upgrade error by Fantastico, I have lost  completely my Characters Environments forum thus I am forced to start from scratch.

I had upgraded my bot to a Site Pal image.  There's plenty of function with Site Pal but in order for members to talk with my bot on the forum I need the basic code which I have learned to adjust.  Don't know code well but with my Coffee Cup HTML editor, I get by.  Maybe this post will bring this topic to the top for a short while.

I missed y'all.  :)
