As I understand that a lot of effort goes into software and web development, I am postponing work on my website in hope that TP 0.9.x or even 1.x.x will be released shortly.
On the Roadmap (http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?page=14) page, everything under 0.9 is bolded (as of April 13, now 2 months ago), yet public only has access to 0.8.6?. Yes I am aware that it says implemented, but I would assume you wouldn't announce it being implemented unless it was working?.
I was looking for places to get a beta from, but was unlucky and extremely tired at the time, so I thought I might post a new thread.
Perhaps, if possible, update the Roadmap or at least let us know where the development is currently at or if possible, an ETA on next release ::) (it's a big ask, but you don't get an answer unless you ask in the first place).
If you use the Tp V.086 you are in the beta group as TP is in beta development as is.
When the next Tp will be released only Bloc can say.
Even if the roadmap show boalded text it is just a pointer to what you are going to get from it.
The Alphateam is still testing, and it still have bugs in it, it is summertime, warm and Bloc dont spend all day long at the computer right now.
So the best answer is, it comes when it comes ;)
We are still shaking the bugs out of it ;)
Alpha testers are already testing .95b, which is in excellent condition. I suspect a beta release of it soon. Documention is the hold up I think, and maybe a few minor bugs...
But it boils down to when Bloc is ready. Could be another month, but if I had to guess I'd say a week or less maybe?

a week is my guess, not etched in stone. Bloc has teh final say, so don't get over excited.
Yeah I think documentation is an integral part, so I don't mind waiting if thats what one of the larger hold-ups is, and small errors, you wish they just didn't exist sometimes ;)
What will the upgrade process be like? Our company just installed TP. We were planning on two of our developers on the project to customize and integrate with our other applicatoins. Should we just wait until the next release? ...

The upgrade process "should" be as simple as installing it through the package manager if you haven't modified any of the files that TP needs to look at.

.9.1 was a release for GM's only to test and .9.5 was a release to alpha testers. Niether has reached beta yet, but hopefully beta testers will recieve .9.5 beta soon.
.9.5 has some major changes from .8.6, although it may not be apparent at first. Everyone's gonna love the dynamic blocks feature that lets you place a block anywhere on your site, and you can now also apply a theme overwride to articles.
There are many other new features, it's jjust that I lost track because it's been so long since I've used .8.6 that I can't remember what it was lacking.
Also some theme changes is done in this release :)
A full list of changes will be available of course.
Can we get a changelog now? We have been making changes to SMF's source files to optimize performance. This way we'll know what not to touch.
I think you have to wait like every one else on this release.

I upgraded my forum yesterday from 1.1rc2 to 1.1rc3 and then upgraded Tp from V.091 to TP V.095 (Alpha release)
Still some small errors, but those will be fixed in the Beta release you will get when Bloc is done with it :)
I already upgraded (just the forum!). Luckily for me AA New Damage still works
All themes from SMF 1.1rc2 wil work on SMF 1.1rc3 as there was no template changes at all in the new release
so i guess windows xp for rc2 beta will work.... me want 0.9.5 so baddddddddddddddddddddddddd!!!

According to Bloc there were no changes that would affect the themes between the versions (exept as i saw from your link) the small changes from "rc2 to rc3" .
I have to trust Bloc ;)
Also the themes i have on my setup now Luminance, Nexus5 and Blue101 are working with out any errors on my setup SMF 1.1rc3 and TP V.095 :)
In just two weeks I got used to TP... now I have to get used to not having it... :'(
I really couldnt be bothered updgrading to RC3 and having no tinyportal so im just going to wait untill the next version of tp is out and have a fresh rc3 install + fresh tinyportal install (https://www.tinyportal.net/smf/Smileys/new/smiley.gif).

Installed 1.1rc3 on my testsite
Installed TP V.095
Installed Arcade 1.3.0
Installed FelBlog (Had to go with manual edits of the files here)
Installed GoogleBot & Spidermod
Tweeked the files so it was almost as my Live site.
Downloaded all the files from my testsite when i was happy with the setup.

Prepared my live site for the upgrade.
Set the forum to default theme
Deleted all themes exept the default ones
Made a complete backup of all forum files through FTP
Made a complete backup of the DB both through SMF Admin and PhP Myadmin just in case.

Uploaded all the files from my testsite setup leaving out settings.php and settings.bak.php, all other files i choosed to overwrite. All the SAME files from the setup will be overwritten and updated, but all files saved in the folders Games and tp-downloads will still be there as they dont exist in the test setup.
Uploaded 1.1rc3 upgrade.php to my forum root
Uploaded TP V.095 tp_install.php file to my forum root
Uploaded install.php for the Arcade to the forum root folder
Uploaded FelBlog install.php to the forum root folder
Pointed my browser to upgrade.php and it upgraded the DB for SMF 1.1rc3
Pointed my browser to tp_install.php and it upgraded the DB for TP V.095 Alpha
Pointed my browser to install.php for the Arcade mod and it updated the Arcade
Pointed my browser to felblog_install.php and it updated the Felblog mod

So this is one way to go if you have a big live site with mods and a big download section and Arcade installed with a lot of games.
Make a "clone" of the setup with the files on a test site, and just overwrite and upgrade it on your live site and you will have all content left after the upgrade :)
The themes should work fine, but as harzeM points out: there are some changes to be made..nothing that will break existing themes though.
I am not upgrading until the new release of Tiny Portal. What good is an upgrade of SMF if I cannot have Tiny Portal with it. So I am waiting. When it is done it is done, no rushing is best.

So to say it in a short way, i make an exact copy of the live site, Upload the whole copy to my live site root except setting.php and settings.dat.php?

No, you just need to put it through the package manager.
But that requires the uninstalling of the old version.
You don't have to uninstall 0.86 when you install 0.95

It's stored in the mysql db... an example is with smfarcade, uninstall 1.2.4b then install 1.3.0 E1.3 and game list is still installed

Yep, the database should always be fine. But, you should always make back-ups, anyway, just to have them.
Actually my host makes backups every week for me. So I can ask for them. And usually I back up my databases everytime I go into Mysql in my Z-panel.
Never rely on a host's backups. -voe
If your host is backing up off server you are probably OK in terms of catastrophic loss. That assumes backups are done daily not weekly. I suggest ask them to restore something for you just to see if they can peerform.
If you are backing up with cPanel on your own server...I have been advised to test the backups periodically. cPanel has it's quirks!
Backing up before you make changes to a site is always good along with having recent backups on your home machine just for a quick restore.
I lost everything on my server once....very painful...I would hate for anybody to go through that!

I do the same with my MySQL folder since I own the server. It pays to have backup. We have this cool backup server for the office computers called "Mirra" which installs a program on everyones computer and automatically makes a backup of the folders you specify to the Mirra server. It even keeps a copy of the same file if its changed. Anywho, sorry to go OT. :)
