I am probably missing something simple, but I cannot see any link or menu item where ordinary forum members can upload or submit articles.
I have just installed TP 1.0.6 on a fresh SMF 1.1.8.
I have followed the info in the documents here relating to settings in Articles/Categories/Submissions where it says to set who I want to provide permissions to, but apart from the title "Submissions" the page is otherwise blank.
what am I missing?
If you have the permissions correct, they should se a link in the user block.
Hmm there is no user block, including for myself. I've set permissions in Admin to "can submit" but no user block.
I've been going through Admin to set articles. Theres obviously a problem.
No, you need to create a Block, type: User Block.
Or simply add a menu item(s): http://www.example.com/index.php?action=tpadmin;sa=articles
Rafferty,
You didn't Read and Reply to the Posting Guidelines (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,581), did you? If you had, you would have seen that one of the things we need in order to help you is a link to your site. Please provide this and someone should be able to help you.

This is a bit confusing. There is no setting for a Type: User Block
The menu item takes them to the Full Admin page it appears. Wouldn't they then have access to everything Admin does?

It's permission based. If you give permissions to add and edit articles, thats all they can do. The rest of the admin panel remains restricted.
Maybe this does need to be more user friendly, as opposed to admin friendly.
You are welcome to request in the Feedback, or bugtracker.. which has a feature suggestion.

"Only registered members are allowed to access this section."
at your site --> https://aadaa.asn.au/forum/index.php
We can hardly help you if we can't see what your Front Page and Forum looks like. Please enable guests to see your Forum or we can't help you. You don't have to allow guests to post, only to view.

Actually, my mistake. It's an Admin Tools block. I've been using a custom multi tab user block and tools, themes, profile etc are included there.
If when using the Admin Tools block, the only thing they should be able to see is the items that you give permissions for, under Permissions.
the Tools menu includes:
- Upload file
- Manage settings
- Manage blocks
- Manage articles
- Manage Files
I would just add links for Uploading Articles in the main menu. I've never allowed my members to submit articles.. so how the permissions work with Article types.. I'm not sure.
And, it would help if you did follow the posting guide as ZarPrime suggested.
I honestly can't find any admin tool block anywhere or it's permissions. I recall it in 0.9.8 but I just can't see it with the new version.
Ive made a temp log on for ***** deleted**** so maybe you could take a look.
It looks to have been changed in TP B3, which I haven't installed yet.
Try: Article and Download functions.
I can't do much in the admin panel here at work as the company firewall blocks it and also I get "sorry, you are not allowed to fetch news". when attempting to create the block type Article and Download functions. I don't have full admin access.
And if you do want to give people temp admin access, please keep those access details to PM's.
Thanks for looking. The Article/Download block doesnt seem to do anything, there are several choices inside all of which appear to be related to the download module and article displays - newest, most viewed etc.
Hmm.. for now I can't do anything else. This is the first time I've actually seen the admin panel for TP B3.. so things seem to be different. I do need to install it sometime, but I'm waiting on an update. I just don't seem to have time to do the manual upgrade and keep putting it off.
ZarPrime might be able to have a look for you.. now that I've hijacked the topic.
User block...
Thank for that Ichbin, I guessed it had to be there somewhere. A further question though, The block seems to give permission to those membergroups I choose when activating the block. My idea was to allow most membergroups to submit or upload articles only and not have full file or article management facilities.
I don't want them editing or deleting folders or articles, that left to Admins only. The permission choices seem very limited, all or nothing, or I don't know where to find them to set individually.
There permissions are not like that at all. In the permissions for each member group you can set the following.
TinyPortal
Manage settings - gives them admin over tinyportal settings
Manage blocks - gives them admin over blocks
Manage articles - Gives them admin over articles
TinyPortal File manager
Manage Files - Gives them admin over downloads
Upload file - Allows them to upload a file
TinyPortal Articles
Submissions are always approved - No approval required
Can submit HTML articles - Ability to submit regular articles
Can submit BBC articles - Ability to submit BBC articles
Can edit own articles - Permission to edit own articles
You can clearly give permission to create articles, and deny the permission to be able to edit/delete.
