Title: Theme Stays at Default
Post by: vulcan59 on December 31, 2008, 05:16:19 AM
Hi all,

I downloaded and installed a new theme but somehow the main theme (Adagio) stays on the frontpage while the rest of the links show the new theme.

The forum link is here. (http://mmera.co.cc/forum/) Yes it's on a free domain name and server but I like to check things and iron out problems before going live.

I do not have any articles at all. I tried changing themes but somehow the main theme stays on the frontpage and all the other pages show the new theme.

Oops and let me add that I am using SMF 1.1.7 with TP 1.0.6 beta 2 installed.

Any help appreciated Happy New Year and best regards to all here.

goto your admin page, click on the Themes and Layout Link on the left side - when it comes up you will see 2 boxes to choose from - one labeled "Overall forum default:" and the other labeled "Reset everyone to:" make sure both are set for the theme you want to use and click SAVE - this should fix it.

:D

Thanks p v c blue but nope nothing happens. After choosing and clicking save (both same themes) the lower option box just shows "No change". No errors in the Forum error log. Yes, I did do a hard refresh to check after the selection.

Vulcan,

Give us a link to your site so that we can see it.  Hard to tell what's going on unless we see it.

However, the only time I've ever seen this happen on my forum is when I did this on purpose.  If you have the Forum set to show a featured article on your front page AND that article is set to display with a theme that is NOT the default theme for the forum, then the front page will show with the theme the article is using, whereas the rest of the forum will show the forum default you've selected.  I hope I was clear on that.

Hope this helps,

ZarPrime

Thanks zarprime,

Yes I did browse through the forum and someone had a similar problem before. However in my case, I have no articles whatsoever. The link to my forum is here (http://mmera.co.cc/forum).

Just to update members, p v c blue did have a go at it and he can't understand the problem as well.

Regards.

If your frontpage is locked to one theme while the rest of the forum have another, is must be an article that hold the theme locked.
Check your article manager again.

Hi G6,

I did that. I do not have any articles whatsoever.

Also if you notice the title at the top of the browser says "Merry Xmas....." but my frontpage was edited to show "Happy New Year......" which for some reason doesn't show at all. Not sure if the two are related.

Thanks.

Reupload the tp files from the package, then point your browser othe manual_tp_install.php and let it update your tp tables. Refresh the page and have another look

And please dont send me any PMs unless i have asked you to.

Okay thanks will try that.

P V C Blue after having a thorough look seem to think that there is a bug in the Adagio theme. He can see nothing wrong anywhere.

Just like to add, did you try the test account yet before I try the manual install?

Then you are the only one having this "bug"

Apologies, I PM you a test user id and pw.

Could you have a look before I do a manual re-install?

Thanks.

Sorry my advice didn't help you but I gotta ask a question.  What, exactly did you do to edit your frontpage to say "Happy New Year" instead of "MMERA - Merry Christmas From All of Us Here"?  Your problem is definitely a symptom of having the front page locked by a featured article, as G6 says, and if you have somehow created a featured article then this is undoubtedly the problem.

Is that Happy New Year thing in the middle in a block, or what?

Well "Happy New Year..." is the title of the front block not an article. Previously it was the "Merry Xmas....."

Assuming I did create an article, I should be able to delete it right? However when I go in to the articles, there is nothing there!

Would you care to have a test account to have a look before I do a manual re-install?

I'll look at it, but if pvc Blue couldn't find the problem I doubt that I will either.  If you want me to look at it, PM me and I will take a look if you trust me.  I'm not a support person here, so G6 is definitely the better one to help you but I'll look at it if you want me to.

Well it's still testing and not really live except for the kids playing with it, so by all means, please have a look and see if you can spot something that pvc blue might have missed.

PMed.

Thanks.

Ok, it was indeed an merry Xmas article there that were locked to use adigo theme, i deleted it and now it seem to work as it should.

OK, there you go.  Try that.  Same theme on the front page that's on the rest of the Forum.  You did have 1 category setup without any articles but since you weren't using articles, I changed your front page settings to show just forum-posts instead of "Forum-posts and articles - sorted on date" as you had it set.

I think you're all set.  Does this solve your problem?

ZarPrime

EDIT:  OK, I guess G6 slipped in there before I had a chance to look and fixed it.  Looks like you're all set.  I changed it back to "Forum-posts and articles - sorted on date" in case you ever want to start using articles.

Zar, i removed the Xmas Article that was deleted from the admin, but it was still precent in the database, i removed it from the DB through phpmyadmin, so thats why it's ok now.
The article had no value set for a category, so thats probably the reason it was not removed in the DB and still locked the theme to adagio

Ah, OK. Well, I'm glad you thought of looking in the DB.  I probably wouldn't have thought about that.  That's why you're here and I'm not. :2funny:

Thank you so much G6 and everybody else.  :D

You mention that that is a "bug" in your PM to me. Would that be sorted out in the next update?

Thanks once again and Happy New Year to all.

Best regards.
