I noticed that you guys have not went to 1.1.5 yet and I also have three forums that i need to upgrade to 1.1.5. Is there a reason your holding off or just lazy like me? I only have one question and maybe I should be asking this at SMF but I do not like that site for personal reasons. Do I have to uninstall all three TP's, upgrade, then re-install the TP's?
If all you are doing is upgrading to 1.1.5 from 1.1.4, you don't need to do anything to TP as long as you upgrade by clicking the link in your admin panel. If you decide to upload the package from SMF to update, then you will need to reinstall TP.
TP V098 works just as well in 1.1.5 as it does in 1.1.4.
Lazy is definatly the wrong word to use, almost got me upset at first case this sis done on free time and more or less by one man with family, children and a full time job, so the wording i would use would be, NO TIME to upgrade.
And also as the developer are aiming for SMF 2 i think he will hold the time he have lest on his hands to go directly to SMF2 when he find the time to upgrade,.
I just now noticed that I placed this in the Themes > General thread, sorry about that, I guess you can move it. Most people do get offended for the simplest of things and misunderstandings. Relax, I did not mean to provoke hostility from you. It was nothing more than a friendly, joking type of reference and regardless of what excuses you make, we are all guilty of it, including myself. I too run a one man hosting show and you probably would like us all to think that he does all this out of the goodness of his heart but he does have advertising, and templates that he sells so it does have monetary motivation.
Your reply of saying that you almost got mad because of a jokingly way I posted something, means that you must have something else going on in your life that is pi$$ing you off. Everyone appreciates the work that each one of you do here but please don't try to make out like your doing us all a favor. I love the portal but there are other forum programs with other portals and they make money off theirs the same way that you all make money here and I thank each of you for your work here, even you answers here in the forum.
You could have just answered, now get your lazy a$$ to work upgrading. LOL.

Thank you!
Some of the files the package manager needs to modify are not writable. This needs to be changed by logging into FTP and using it to chmod or create the files and folders. Your FTP information may be temporarily cached for proper operation of the package manager.
This is an SMF question, not a TP question.
Quotelogging into FTP and using it to chmod or create the files and folders
Is the normal way to do this, open an upgrade package to see what files are edited or uploaded and chmod to writeable then put them back after I'm done?

Actually it concerns both!
No. It does not. You are upgrading SMF. TinyPortal is not being affected at all by the upgrade. IchBin told you that in the second post in this topic. That is the only response that is appropriate for you to receive here. Go to the SMF forum with your question.
Thanks for your reply and I understand about it being an SMF question. I just thought someone might be willing to give up the key to life answer. Later people and thanks for your help.
I actually posted this before reading your reply, hmmm, that may have changed the nature of my reply in the same way that my post offended G6 but I'm not easily offended so thanks again and regardless of what type question it is, I do not use the SMF forums so i must go elsewhere for an answer or upgrade from the pacikage and reinstall the portal afterwards. Thanks to you all.
anyoldcard, there is no need to do anything other than upgrade SMF if you have already TP working on a 1.1.4 installation. If you are trying to upgrade SMF and you're getting the file permission error asking you to change it with FTP, that is an SMF question. But if you just do as it says, and put in your information it should upgrade. If not, SMF is where you should be seeking help. Why wouldn't you?
Many things seem to have been taken out of context in this topic, so lets just let a wounded dog lie. Thanks.
One click update though..easy peasy :)

You say that, but I absolutely dread ever trying to update anything on my forum, because it never works. I'm currently trying to upgrade from SMF 1.1.4 to 1.1.5 because I've had several hack attempts as I'm running the old version. Can I upgrade? Hell no. Does the package manager work? Hell no. And now I'm back to where I always am when trying to upgrade - searching the help topics and trying every damn thing I can. I only came here because I was wondering if it was a compatibility issue, but it appears it's not.
The search continues....
Blunt if everything else fails then use the manual install. I have many mods and themes and understand it isn't fun but I have found no other way. ???
I have 3 forums that I need to upgrade. The admin area upgrade would not work so i did the manual and it went well except for completely screwing up my template. It also gives this error at the bottom of the admin section:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: tportal_version() in /usr/local/4admin/apache/vhosts/genshack.com/httpdocs/forum/Sources/Load.php(1726) : eval()'d code on line 352

Did you upgrade using the default theme, I am thinking and I could be wrong but it seem that the error is saying something is wrong with the tp version, maybe the copyright?
How did it mess up the theme? What theme did it mess up?
I am just wondering, its ok if you don't want to tell me :)
It's a theme that i revamped and you can see it here in one of the other forums:
http://www.ihostalot.com/ftforum/index.php?action=forum
and here:
http://www.pitcardtalk.com/forum/index.php?action=forum
And here is the forum that I upgraded:
http://www.genshack.com/forum/index.php?action=forum
You can see from the third link that it caused the theme to display wider than normal and the TP is completely gone. maybe I need to reinstall the TP but I will wait till morning or until someone see this that may know what caused it.
The site that is messed up, can you put it on the default theme so I can see
better yet can I see in the admin area, if you don't mind
Also did you backup that site before you modified it?

Thanks for the tip, but I've already tried that, and it's not working - BTW, I'm not trying to upgrade TP (that's the current version) - I'm upgrading SMF. And apparently there's a fix in the upgrade that'll make the package manager work, finally, so I'm hoping if I can get this upgrade to work this may be the last time I have these troubles.
I usually find better help at these forums than at SMF - everybody here is so knowledgeable about both SMF and TP. Thanks again.

Upgrading your SMF version is not really our department but simplemachines.org
You have major problems upgrading because the packagemanager dont work, most likly because of permission issues or even that you have made a lot of changes in your SMF files that the parser cant find the strings it looks for. If it cant find the strings, it gives the errors you describe,
But to make this update, you must first start and see that the only way for you at this point is to set your forum to all defaults, ( smf default core theme, and english ISO (non utf8 language ).
Then replace all of your SMF files with a set of fresh new files from the big upgrade package that can be found on SMF.
When you have replaced all the files, you have a fresh forum, but all the other mods will be gone and will have to be readded to SMF files again.
That part hould not be to hard. If you installed them through the package manager they are still listed in your package manager and should only require you to apply them again. Start with TP as it's the biggest mod. Then go from there.
When you have everything working in the default theme, switch to your custom one. If that messes up, you know you have to clean the theme up to.
There are no easy way to do things sometimes, and this is probably it :-\
Lmao~! ;D
Nope, because the admin section is no longer accessible:
An Error Has Occurred!
Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.
And it will not let me log out.
Guess I'll mosey on over to SMF forums but I'm dreading it. Later people and thanks.
