Sylosis - Conclusion of an Age

Genre: Thrash metal, progressive metal, melodic death metal

Sylosis hail from the UK. This is the bands debut album after releasing 2 EP's and signing with Nuclear Blast Records. We discovered Sylosis when we see them support Testament in May. This album is the nuts, although I was put off by some of the clean vocals on a few tracks.. But it's done well and it doesn't make the album any less enjoyable.

the album's lyrical theme deals with "the direction in which the planet is heading and the consequences humanity will face. The album covers many areas but the main concept is the idea of mankind destroying itself through war, self-indulgence, religion etc., and how the earth is being ravaged by humanity to the point of being destroyedââ,¬Â¦ but how the earth's might will eventually prevail!"

There's a track uploaded to the player on my Home Page if anybody is interested, Sylosis - The Blackest Skyline.

Reminds me of being in Whistler earlier this year, as it was the first song we listened to on the way from Vancouver.
Stilll got to wait another 4 and a bit weeks until I'm back there :D
(and I'm already getting excited!)

Debut album

Fleshgod Apocalypse - Oracles

Describing themselves as Orchestral Death Metal, it's simply Brutal Death Metal, or Tech Death Metal. There's a few piano parts thrown in, and some string sections, and while novel at first.. I think they should have just stuck to the core of the album and not included the "Orchestral" bit's. Kinda like Nile and their thematic Egyption albums.. Quit it, you aint even been to Egypt.

I skip most of the cheese, I hate to say it is cheese because the rest of the album is just blistering.

Been waiting 3 weeks for this to turn up. Again, there's a track uploaded to the player on my home page. It's from the 2007 EP they sent me along with a limited edition t-shirt.

My taste in music is on the extreme side, but I just also bought Heaven and Hell's first full length, The Devil You Know. (This band consists of past and current Black Sabbath members and was conceived in order to play classic Sabbath tracks and new selections while not infringing on the Ozzy Osbourne-fronted version of the band. While fans and critics alike have taken to referring to the band simply as "Black Sabbath," all band members have confirmed that this project is ultimately different from that classic group. -Metal Archive)

...and Sleep's 1993 classic album, Holy Mountain. Stoner Rock, Doom Metal in the vein of Ozzy era Black Sabbath.. but not just a generic rip off. Good stuff
