There are currently 5 in my house

What type of it?

All desktops.

What windows are they running on?

1 (my spare and for anyone who drops in) Evesham(ish) XP Home, I've upgraded the memory, graphics card and CPU. 3 self built, 1 (my main one) running XP Home on a 64bit CPU. 1 (my youngest daughters, when she's around) XP Home, made from a new mobo and the bits I had from upgrading the Evesham. 1 (for my son) just built, 64 bit dual core CPU, with Ubuntu 6 Linux installed. The other one I'm not sure if I built it or not, but it has an older version of Ubuntu Linux on it, my next project is to upgrade it and install Ubuntu Linux Server.

Do you love computer's?

I love fiddling with themÃ, 

What do you do on them work or something eles?

Admin my own board, test TP Alpha versions and lurk in the Bloc Zone

Linux is lot harder then window's?  I keep hearing about Linux.  I don't know what is it.

Linux is an open source operating system, it is free to download. I haven't had a good look at the instalation on my sons PC, but it does most of the things that Windows does as a basic system, it comes with Open Office and Firefox.

One of the biggest drawbacks for some is the lack of games support. I do want to find out more about it and would like to set up a very basic home server so that I can fiddle some more

Awesome, I didn't know they are the same as windows.  I guess that is kindly neat.

Why they are free to download?  I'm just asking.  I hear most software you have to buy to install it on a PC or whatever.

There is a lot of free open source software about, SMF and Tiny Portal to name but two

I never think of that.  I alway's think you have to buy the software for a PC or whatever.  But you are true about SMF and Tiny Portal is free to us to use.
