Syntax Issue

Not sure if this is the right place, just having a little syntax issues as I am a begnner to PHP but have some HTML and CSS experience.

I am using the theme called darkbreak, I have moved the user area code you see once logged in to the top right hand side where the search and time/date used to be, I'm trying to edit the code so I can change the text that is appearing, here is the code in use ...

 if ($context['allow_pm'])
           echo '' ,$txt[152], ' <a href="', $scripturl, '?action=pm">', $context['user']['messages'], ' ', $context['user']['messages'] != 1 ? $txt[153] : $txt[471], '</a>', $txt['newmessages4'], ' ', $context['user']['unread_messages'], ' ', $context['user']['unread_messages'] == 1 ? $txt['newmessages0'] : $txt['newmessages1'],'';

How this text appears is like so ...

Hey, User_Name you have 0 messages, 0 are new

I would like to re-word the sentence with something like

Hey User_Name < br >
You have 0 PMs (0 are new)

I've tried to remove the $txt variables but it keeps messing up the syntax, any help would be very appreciated!

Thanks

JPDeni

I didn't test it, but I think this should work.

if ($context['allow_pm'])
            echo '<br />You have <a href="', $scripturl, '?action=pm">', $context['user']['messages'], ' ', $context['user']['messages'] != 1 ? 'PMs' : 'PM', '</a> (', $context['user']['unread_messages'], ' ', $context['user']['unread_messages'] == 1 ? 'is' : 'are',' new)';

Zyos

Thanks a lot, that worked awesome!

JPDeni

:) Cool!

I'm glad it worked for you.

Zyos

I just have one more issue ... I'm trying to place a search box in a div that floats right from the navbar, I borrowed the original code from the template, I will include the code bring used.

       <div id="newsearch">

<form action="', $scripturl, '?action=search2" method="post" accept-charset="', $context['character_set'], '">

<input type="text" name="search" value="', $txt[182], '..." onfocus="this.value = \'\';" onblur="if(this.value==\'\') this.value=\'', $txt[182], '...\';" /> ';

// Search within current topic?
if (!empty($context['current_topic']))
echo '
<input type="hidden" name="topic" value="', $context['current_topic'], '" />';

// If we're on a certain board, limit it to this board ;).
elseif (!empty($context['current_board']))
echo '
<input type="hidden" name="brd[', $context['current_board'], ']" value="', $context['current_board'], '" /></form>
</div>

However, the template errors stating this: syntax error, unexpected '<'

I'm looking and maybe I can't see the forest for the trees but I can't seem to see the error!

Any further help is very much appreciated!

JPDeni

This looks like an easy one.

Add this at the beginning:

echo '

and this at the end

';

Zyos

Sorry I was using the last functions echo to carry on part of the theme, that was what was causing the issue.

I have managed to get the search bar in, now I have a strange side effect, I can't edit any settings or anything, because when I click Save on a page, it takes me straight to the search results page, very confusing to me!

Heres my entire index.template.php

<?php
// Version: 1.1.5; index

/* This template is, perhaps, the most important template in the theme. It
contains the main template layer that displays the header and footer of
the forum, namely with main_above and main_below. It also contains the
menu sub template, which appropriately displays the menu; the init sub
template, which is there to set the theme up; (init can be missing.) and
the linktree sub template, which sorts out the link tree.

The init sub template should load any data and set any hardcoded options.

The main_above sub template is what is shown above the main content, and
should contain anything that should be shown up there.

The main_below sub template, conversely, is shown after the main content.
It should probably contain the copyright statement and some other things.

The linktree sub template should display the link tree, using the data
in the $context['linktree'] variable.

The menu sub template should display all the relevant buttons the user
wants and or needs.

Quotewhen I click Save on a page

I don't understand. Where are you clicking "Save" and what is the page?

In case you're talking about editing the template file within SMF, I don't know the answer. I never do that. I always edit my files in a text editor and upload them.

Zyos

What I meant was when I am on a page in admin centre, where I can change settings, I change something and click save and all it does is take me to the search results page, its almost as if the submit button is somehow tied to the search box, which doesn't have a submit button, if that makes any sense.  I can't save any changes because they don't take effect.

Not sure how to proceed lol.

Thanks again

JPDeni

Hmmmm. Sounds like it's a problem with your new theme. Is it possible to switch to the default theme at all?

Zyos

Well, thats a text link afaik, anything that seems to involve a submit button on the page will automatically go to what would be the search results, the actual search box was in the same template just another section of it and as far as I know worked fine before, so I'm very confused and have no idea what the issue is lol.

If you could spare some time I would be happy to allow you access with an admin account to take a look?

I don't like bothering you for anything more than questions on here so it's ok if you say no lol.

JPDeni

This is really an SMF thing, but I'll give it a shot. Send me a PM with login info for admin access. Oh, yeah. And a link to the site. ;)

Zyos

Well, scratch that, the issue won't allow me to log in lmao, keeps sending me to search results page after searching for Search...

Which is the default value of the search bar.

A search bar has locked me out of my own forum haha.

Except for I can overwrite the index.template.php anyways, but that isn't the point.  I've since tried using a name value for the form, no effect on it, confusing as hell!

Upon further investigation the form works fine if these two functions are removed ...

<?php

// Search within current topic?
if (!empty($context['current_topic']))
echo '
<input type="hidden" name="topic" value="'
$context['current_topic'], '" />';

// If we're on a certain board, limit it to this board ;).
elseif (!empty($context['current_board']))
echo '
<input type="hidden" name="brd['
$context['current_board'], ']" value="'$context['current_board'], '" />';

?>

Wtf?

Working as expected now!  Thanks anyways Hehe

JPDeni

Sorry I missed your posts. I was waiting for a PM while I was doing something else.

But it looks like you got it figured out on your own. Cool. :)

Zyos

No problem, thanks for the help!
