should really put my site on here :D
it opened on sept 14th 2008. i didnt knwo a thing about website stuff, but got dreamweaver and learnt how things work and then ran into SMF and TP and went down that path.
the theme is by fussilet (an truly awesome designer) but heavily modified (i am a photoshop addict). I got alot of help from husman from the tp/smf forums  and am now kinda of happy with it, tho i still want a few tweaks and changes so just try to keep on learning.

Going pretty good so far even have a few famous pros on there ;D

Jokey

Very nice site and graphics cepsi, one suggestion tho, change the width, it is too wide! At home this would make no dif to me as I have a huge flat screen and high resolution, but most people are still using 1024 X768 and it runs off the right hand side of the screen and you have to scroll over. Just a suggestion.  ^-^

cepsi

yeah ive had a few of those comments but not sure what i can do about it. i think e1 should buy widescreen to save me the hassle lol
i original designed it on a 19" widescreen, but both of em blew up (dont buy xerox they are seriously flawed!) i now have a 19" and a 15" and it is pretty sucky on the 15" :(
like i said tho im kinda learning as i go and will hopefully find a way to make it better on all screens
i love your smurf site to PVC you inspired me to get my site up on the boards for healthy critism

Bit difficult to give criticism as you have the forum closed to guests. As noted already, the banner stretches beyong my screen here at work, the .png graphics do not display properly in IE6.. but I'm of the strong opinion that support for an obsolete browser should be dropped, net wide.

Cepsi,

Looks nice, nice color scheme.  The biggest problem is that banner in your header.  It's 1400 pixels wide.  I can't even view the whole width with my 1280 x 800 screen.  If you could cut about 600 or 700 pixels out of the center of the banner, or scale it down so that it scales to about 800 pixels wide it would help a lot.  Because you use the right panel as well, it might also help to set the left and right panels down to something like 170 pixels or so.  You've seen my site.  The left panel there is set for 170 pixels.

how do i do that dude? is it in the TP settings? I knew about this problem but didnt know how to fix it. As for the banner, i want to make it self expanding (ie always centered) but dont have the knowledge yet to do it so i made it big so it fits all screens.
i literally am learning as i go and really appreciate the feedback. i should have done this ages ago

G6Cad

You have to shrink the image, there are no settings within TP or SMF to do that, you need to edit the image itself you use for a banner tp 800max so it fits for all resolutions

As G6 says, there really isn't a way to scale an image on the fly, at least not that I know of, but there may be a couple of creative ways to do something like that.  Though I'm pretty good with html, I'm not as good as a lot of the people on here, so somebody else might be able to help you with that.  A couple things that might work though are ...
1.  Use some sort of javasctript to detect the screen resolution of the user, then have different size images ready.  If they're using 1024px wide, they'd see one image, if they're using 1280px width resolution, use another image, etc.
2.  Just thinking about this, since all that space in the middle is black with gray at the top and bottom, you might be able to setup your header with a table 1 cell tall by 3 cells wide.  Cut out the pokerpod.com image on the left as a smaller image for the left cell, and an image for the right cell that contains the "... The Portal into Internet Poker" and the 4 icons on the right.  In the center cell, you might be able to cut out a 10px (or so) wide section of that black with the gray at top and bottom, and set that as a background image to repeat, or some kind of repeating image like that.  Do this in all 3 cells with no borders or padding and you might be able to make it look presentable.  Like I said, somebody else might be able to give you some pointers on doing something like this.

On setting the panel widths, go to Admin --> Tinyportal --> Panels and Blocks.  Then click "Left" and below that "Panel".  There you will see the panel width where you can change it.  You can do the same thing with the right panel.

Hope some of this helps.

It's possible to have a banner which will fit the full width of the screen, no matter how wide the screen is, but you'll have to do some programming directly in the index.template.php file for your theme. You would break your image into three pieces -- the content on the left and right and then a little slice of the empty stuff in the middle. Then you use either tables or divs (divs are probably better, but I don't know as much about them :) ) to display it. The center div or table cell would stretch to make the whole thing fit whatever the screen size is for the person looking at it.

Looks like zarprime explained it better than I did. :)

My husband and I like poker a lot. (I don't play, but I like to watch. :) ) Can you tell us who the pros are who have been to your site?

ZarPrime

Deni,

No, No, you explained it good too.  My explanation was probably even a little harder to understand then yours.  Besides, you even thought of using divs.

Cepsi, if you have looked at my site (http://talesofthehavenexpanse.com/SMF-1/index.php) recently, I did something similar to this (only with 2 table cells instead of 3 because I didn't need to account for the gray border).  If you scroll down a little bit and look at the top block with the Christmas countdown on the left and the Santa in his sleigh on the right, you'd think this is all one image, but in fact the countdown is the left image and the Santa on the right is another image.

What I did here was to take the block code snippet for the snow effect from here ---> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,1436.0.html

I then looked in the block code and found this ...

<table width="100% border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#ffffff">
<tr>
<td align="center"><img src="seasons/merry_christmas.jpg">
</td>
</tr>
</table>
<br>

and replaced it with this ...

<table width="100% border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#ffffff">
<tr>
<td align="center"><a href="http://siggiez.com/countdownz/ch/index2.cgi">
<img src="http://siggiez.com/countdownz/ch/bans/43.jpg" width="468" height="60" border="0" title="Siggiez Countdown Banners"></a>
</td>
<td align="center"><img src="seasons/merry_christmas.jpg">
</td>
</tr>
</table>
<br>

It gives the effect of being 1 image instead of 2, and the countdown changes every night.  If you change resolutions, or just make your browser window smaller from left to right, you'll notice that the countdown and the right image stay in the same basic spot and the amount of white space to the left of the countdown and between the 2 images gets smaller.
